The Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, has ordered the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Gregory Obi, and his party to present their joint petition against the February 25 presidential election within three weeks.

The court also ordered the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is the target of the petition, to defend his victory at the election along with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, within five days.

Obi, through his counsel, Professor Awa Kalu SAN, had requested for seven weeks to establish their allegations against the disputed election that produced Tinubu

Chairman of the Court, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, issued the order on Tuesday while presenting the pre-hearing sessions report of the Court.

Among others, Justice Tsammani ordered that Obi must open his petition for hearing on May 30 and end same on June 23.

The Court said that it arrived at the decision because of the limited time within which the petition must be disposed off.

Immediately after the order of the Court was handed down, Obi, who was in court to witness the proceedings, took permission from the court and left on the ground that they were going to prepare for the full blown hearing of the petition.

Meanwhile, the Court has ordered the consolidation of the petitions so as to ensure expeditious hearing.

Tweeps react as El-Rufai's son mocks Falz for having surgery abroad

Tags
Barrage of reactions trailed the comments of Bashir El-Rufai, the son of the Kaduna state governor, as he taunted Falz, the rapper, for travelling to the United Kingdom for knee surgery.

On Wednesday, May 10 2023 Falz disclosed that he sustained an injury on his anterior cruciate ligament while playing football in November 2022.

The rapper added that he underwent surgery on May 2, 2023, at a medical facility in London.

Reacting to Falz’s disclosure via his Twitter handle on Thursday, Bashir said he expected the singer to have had his surgery in a Nigerian hospital.

He added that he was “disappointed” Falz did not go to the Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) as a “bona-fide human rights activist”.

“UK? He didn’t go to LASUTH as a bona-fide human rights activist? Disappointing,” he wrote.

Bashir's comment has stirred reactions on the microblogging platform as some Nigerians opined that he is entitled to any hospital of his choice provided he is not spending taxpayers g money

Read some comments :
I am just wondering if I am sick and I can afford treatment abroad I should not do so when I am not a public servant.
I wish Falz a very speedy recovery. @Banibo6.
It is Lagos in particular and Nigeria, in general, they destroyed that made his travel abroad for better health care. If they did well through responsible governance Falz will be here to seek medical treatment.@CAnochiwa

For those asking if Falz did his surgery in Nigeria or not. As long as it’s not taxpayer's money it’snonen of your damn business.

Don’t even try to compare it with I built Lagos, I built Lagos. Falz is a private citizen and doesn’t ne'edtaxpayerss' money to undergo surgery… twitter.com/i/web/status/1… @Hashafcee1

Tinubu Leaves for Europe Ahead of Inauguration, Gives Reasons

Tags
President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday afternoon left Nigeria for Europe on a working visit.

Words from Tinubu’s office stated that the president-elect will use the opportunity of the trip to finetune the transition plans and programmes, and his policy options with some of his key aides without unnecessary pressures and distractions.

During the visit, the President-elect is also expected to engage with investors and other key allies with the goal of marketing investment opportunities in the country and his administration’s readiness to enable a business-friendly climate through policies and regulations.

Already, meetings with multi-sectoral actors in Europe’s business community including manufacturing, agriculture, tech and energy have been lined up.

Tinubu will also use the trip to convince investors of Nigeria’s readiness to do business under his leadership through mutually-beneficial partnerships premised on jobs creation and skills acquisition.

Reviving the country’s economy forms a major plank of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and the meeting is part of his efforts to re-establish Nigeria’s importance in the global economic chain and create empowering opportunities for the country’s huge youth population.

The President-elect has hitherto promised to hit the ground running and the visit is reflective of his commitment to the promise as he has already begun talks with global actors in the important areas of the economy and security.

Before he left the country, Tinubu met with the House of Representatives candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker endorsed by his party, the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who were presented to him by Joint Task Team of the House.

He is scheduled to return shortly for preparations towards his official swearing in as the 16th President of the country on May 29, 2023.

Osun Election: Oyetola finally congratulates Adeleke

Tags
Former Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has congratulated his successor, Ademola Adeleke over the Supreme Court judgment that upheld his victory as Governor of the State.
Oyetola had dragged Adeleke before the Election Petition Tribunal after the July 16 governorship election alleging that the election was marred with irregularities, asking
the court to return him as the duly elected governor.

The tribunal had upheld the argument of Oyetola, ruling that Adeleke did not win the lawful majority votes and declared Oyetola as the winner. However, the Court of Appeal reversed the lower court’s decision affirming the victory of Adeleke as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Also, the Supreme Court further affirmed the victory of Adeleke as duly elected Governor of the State.

Oyetola in a statement personally signed by him, and made available to journalists by his spokesperson, Ismail Omipidan, said although the verdict of the Apex Court was against the wish of his party’s members and supporters, he accepted it in the interest of peace and development of the State.

The former governor urged members of his political party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, his supporters, and those who voted for him during the July 16, 2022 governorship election, to accept the judgment as the will of God and move on.

“We strongly believe we presented a good case before the Supreme Court but the Court thought otherwise and has given its verdict. While the outcome is against our wish and that of our party members and supporters, we are all bound to accept it as law-abiding citizens.

“To our members and supporters across the State, I urge you all to accept the verdict of the Court and move on. The present situation is a win-win for us. It’s both a loss and victory rolled into one. While we lost Osun technically, we gained Nigeria,” he said.

Oyetola, who asked the APC members and supporters not to feel sad and depressed over the decision of the Court, encouraged them to brace up for the tasks ahead of the party. He also appreciated the leadership of the party at the State and at the national level for their commitment and support throughout the legal tussle

May 29: Presidential Jet Flown Abroad For 'Comprehensive Maintenance'

Tags

Nigeria’s Boeing 737 Presidential jet has been flown out of the country for comprehensive maintenance ahead of the inauguration of a new President.

Villa's correspondent told newsmen that NAF 001, which has served President Muhammadu Buhari in the past eight years was taken out of the country over the weekend.

However, the location is not known, past maintenance on the aircraft had been carried out by its manufacturer, Boeing, in the United States of America.

Boeing’s military aircraft division builds modified 737 planes at its manufacturing facilities in Everett and Renton, Washington (outside of Seattle), and South Carolina.

The 20-year-old aircraft last flew the President to Accra, the Ghanaian Capital, where he attended a Summit of the Gulf of Guinea Commission.

In his next four weeks in office, Buhari will be flown on another aircraft on the Presidential Air Fleet, the source said.

On Tuesday, April 3, 2001, the Senate approved a sum of N5.5bn for the purchase of a new presidential aircraft for then-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

February of that year, Obasanjo sought the Senate’s approval for $19m as part of monies to purchase eight new aircraft for the Presidential air fleet.

“It is necessary to start the process of renewing the presidential fleet of aircraft, some of which are 20 years old and beyond,” he had told the upper legislative chamber.

The senate had refused an earlier request by Obasanjo in 2000, but he renewed his request after a technical fault left him stranded in Switzerland where he had been attending the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The Boeing aircraft will be returned in May and handed over to the new administration after major upgrades to its avionics and other mechanical systems.
