According to him, the helicopter had been deployed and it was going to be working in the environment until “we are able to arrive at a reasonable conclusion as far as kidnapping and sea robbery is concerned in this area.”

Wasuku said, “All the riverine communities are in focus, but the emphasis would be laid on Araromi Waterside, Aberike, Idiogba, Awoye, Skelewu down to Ese-Odo local government area, specifically, Safa-Arogbo and Agagba.

“After the attack on the illegal refineries was launched as well as the arrest of MT Vinnalaris 1 Lagos, crude oil production in the area has steadily improved. So, we have achieved so much success in terms of curbing crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering as well as illegal refining of petroleum products.

“Following these successes, we discovered that the criminal elements have now shifted to kidnapping and sea robbery. You know there is a nexus between kidnapping, sea robbery, crude oil theft, or illegal bunkering as they are all perpetrated by the same criminal cartel.

“A few days ago, a serious water wave crime occurred between Idiogba and Awoye community ( in Ilaje LGA ) where a petrol station attendant was kidnapped and an undisclosed amount of money was carted away by the criminal elements.

“Two days after, based on credible intelligence, Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, FOB, Igbokoda, traced the water wave kidnappers to a location close to Abereke where a suspect was arrested with incriminating evidence, like ammunition in his possession. That suspect has been transferred to one of the security agencies for further interrogation and investigation.

“So far, he has been able to make some very useful revelations that would help us in planning for future operations. We will continue to track the kidnappers to ensure the rescue of the girl.”

LASTMA Introduces Ticket Alert For Traffic Offenders

Tags

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has introduced Ticket Alert, a solution to drive the voluntary compliance of motorists with traffic laws.

LASTMA announced the launch on its official X page on Wednesday.

It said the ticket alert would ensure a hassle-free experience on Lagos roads.

LASTMA is now equipped with modern technology to assist in identifying traffic violators, making it practically impossible to escape when they have pending fines on traffic offences.

“Such traffic offences as driving with expired vehicle license, roadworthiness or insurance, among others

“Once your vehicle is captured by the app and registers you as an offender with unsettled fines as a result of traffic violation, you simply get a yellow sticker on your vehicle as a reminder to settle any outstanding fines within a 30-day period.

“Note that failure to do so after the expiration of the 30 days ultimatum will result in your vehicle being impounded,” it said.

It urged Lagos motorists to visit paylasg.ng. for more information, adding that outstanding fines could be checked using plate numbers.

“LASTMA’s Ticket Alert is your friendly signal to settle up and enjoy a stress-free ride. Join us in this road safety revolution! Together, let’s drive responsibly,” it said.

On how the ticket alert works, it said that LASTMA officials would receive alerts on their mobile devices when vehicles with outstanding fines are nearby.

“This is identified through traffic cameras around Lagos and handheld devices used by volunteers supporting LASTMA for safer Lagos roads.

Upon notification, the LASTMA official locates the vehicle and pastes a yellow sticker to bring attention to the unsettled fine

“Vehicle owners have 30 days from when the fine was issued to settle the fine. The yellow sticker displays information on how you can check and pay your outstanding fine,” it said.

US Authorities Give Update On Wigwe Chopper Crash in California, US

Tags

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in the US has provided an update on the crash of a chopper that had Herbert Wigwe, group chief executive officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc, on board.

Newsmen understands that Wigwe, his wife and son were onboard the helicopter when it crashed in California near the Nevada border.

Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former group chairperson of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), was also reported to be on the aircraft.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had earlier said it would be involved in the investigation of the accident but noted that the NTSB would be in charge.

Speaking during a media briefing held at 6pm Pacific time on Saturday (3am Nigerian time, Sunday), Michael Graham, NTSB board member, said officials were on the scene to gather perishable evidence.

Graham said the team was “methodically and systematically reviewing all evidence” and considering all potential factors to determine the probable cause of the crash.

The NTSB board member said although the information provided was only preliminary, witness reports suggested that a wintry weather condition was among the factors that contributed to the accident.

He said the chopper had two crew members and four passengers — all of whom were fatally injured.

“The crew consisted of a pilot in command and a safety pilot. The accident flight was operated by Orbic Air LLC as a Part 135 charter flight,” Graham said.

“Witness reports of the weather conditions at the time of the accident suggest rain and a wintry mix.

“The helicopter was not equipped with a cockpit voice recorder or a flight data recorder. This helicopter was not required to be equipped with those types of recording devices.”

Graham added that the NTSB would look into the chopper’s airworthiness; maintenance and structure of the helicopter, operations, meteorology, and air traffic control.

“Parties to the investigation include the FAA and Orbic Air LLC. As the investigation continues, other parties could be named,” he said.

“The BEA — the French aviation accident investigation agency — will serve as an accredited representative because France is a state of the manufacturer of the Airbus helicopter and the Turbomeca engine.”

Graham said documentation of the on-scene investigations will include aerial mapping of the wreckage with a drone and site measurements.

He said the NTSB will obtain flight crew records, helicopter maintenance records, and flight dispatch records from Orbic Air for documentation.

When asked about more information on the passengers, Graham said there were no details but added that “any names will be released through the coroner’s office” without specifying a time frame.

Graham said a report will be available in a “couple of weeks” but said a full NTSB investigation will last 12 to 24 months before a final report is published.

AFCON: Fans React As Lookman, Osimhen Lead Super Eagles Attack Against Angola

Tags

Football fans have continued to share candid opinions as Stanley Nwabali, Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper, will be between the sticks when Nigeria face Angola at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast on Friday evening.

The Chippa United shot-stopper was a major doubt after copping a knee injury during the round of 16 clash against Cameroon on Saturday.

Jose Peseiro, Super Eagles head coach, has kept faith in his men who started against Cameroon in the round of 16, and expects them to get a positive result when they face Palancas Negras in the quarter-final game at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

The Portuguese gaffer also stuck to his traditional 3-4-3 formation with William Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi, and Calvin Bassey to shield Nwabali.

Ola Aina and Zaidu Sanusi will be on the right and left flanks as wing-backs while Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka combo will boss the midfield.

The lineup omits Kenneth Omeruo, Samuel Chukwueze, Bright Osayi and Joe Aribo, who all featured against Guinea-Bissau in their group A last game.

Victor Osimhen, the current Africa player of the year, and Adesina Lookman will spearhead the attack.

The game will kick off at 6 pm (Nigerian time).
