"We arrested five cemetery attendant with human skull"-Police

The Lagos State Police, Zone 2 Command, yesterday said it arrested
a cemetery attendant and four others for being in possession of a
human skull.

Lawal Shehu, Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of
Lagos and Ogun states, told journalists that the suspects were
arrested with dried human jaw and dried human scalp on Monday.
“On December 3, 2018, at about 20:30 hours, information received
by Zone 2 Command that one Jimoh Adeola, ‘m’ of Muslim Cemetery,
of Oke Yadi, Abeokuta was in possession of human parts,” Mr Shehu
said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes the official as saying that
the suspect has been dealing in such for a very long time.
“Detectives of the Zonal Intervention Squad were detailed to
investigate and five suspects were arrested while exhibits we’re also
recovered,” he said.
Mr Shehu said operatives from Police Zone 2 Command also on
Monday, arrested three suspected highway robbers operating in the
Ota area of Ogun.
He said on interrogation, the three suspects confessed to having
snatched five vehicles, out of which three have been recovered and
released to their owners.
According to the AIG, the remaining two stolen vehicles have been
sold across the border, in neighbouring Benin Republic.
The three recovered vehicles were a Toyota Venza, Honda Crosstour
and Toyota Highlander.
In the same vein, the AIG said that operatives from Zone 2 police
command also recovered a DAF truck registration number
KTG165YG and arrested two suspects of the stolen vehicle along
Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

Luka Modric saw off competition from France’s World Cup stars as the Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder won the Ballon d’Or yesterday to end a 10-year stranglehold on the award by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Modric, 33, was announced as the winner of the prestigious prize in Paris ahead of Ronaldo and French World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann.

Norwegian striker Ada Hegerberg was rewarded for her prolific form with Champions League winners Lyon as she took the first ever women’s Ballon d’Or prize at a ceremony in Paris on Monday.

The 23-year-old saw off competition from the likes of Danish star Pernille Harder, of German club VfL Wolfsburg, and Brazil’s Marta — winner of FIFA’s best player prize — to take the prize organised by France Football magazine following a vote by journalists from around the world.

“I want to say thanks to my teammates because this would not have been possible without them, my coach or our president Jean-Michel Aulas,” Hegerberg said at the ceremony at the Grand Palais, just off the Champs Elysees.

“I also want to thank France Football. This is a huge step for women’s football.”

Kylian Mbappe was named winner of the Kopa Trophy for young player of the year at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris on Monday.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward, who does not turn 20 until later this month, starred as France won the World Cup and also won the best young player award in Russia.

Murder:Husband "kills" wife in Ogun

The police in Ogun have arrested a 38-year-old man Shina Kasali for allegedly killing his wife Sofiat by beating her to death.

The incident occurred at Abosule in Agbado, Ifo LGA on Saturday.

It was gathered that the couple had an argument following the deceased’s accusation that her husband was looking at the private part of a prostitute who sat on the other side.

Angered by the accusation, the man was said to have halted his wife from going to fetch water which escalated the already tense situation between them.

According to the police, their neighbour identified as Tunde Babatunde reported the matter at Agbado Division when the woman died while being rushed to the hospital.

Spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said Babatunde reported that the couple had a minor disagreement when Kasali refused his wife from going to fetch water when he wanted to.

“He stated further that the argument led to a scuffle between the two, consequent upon which the suspect beat the deceased to coma. She died on the way to hospital.

“Upon the report, Agbado Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Olatunji Omonijo, a Chief Superintendent (CSP) led his detectives to the scene where the suspect was apprehended.

“On interrogation, the suspect claimed to be a butcher and that he has been out of job for some months now and the wife was taking advantage of that to disrespect him.

“The corpse of the victim has been deposited at Ifo General Hospital morgue for post mortem investigation, while the matter has been transferred to homicide section, State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID)for further action,” said Oyeyemi.

19 children drown as boat capsizes in Kwara

Ilorin— No fewer than 19 children drowned in a boat mishap on Saturday in
Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Pressmen reliably gathered that the boat was conveying the children across
River Niger to a traditional wedding in a community in Niger, when the tragedy
occurred.
The boat was reportedly conveying about twenty-one people mostly children, when it suddenly capsized.
A source told reporters' that while two of the passengers were rescued, nineteen
others drowned, stressing that all efforts to rescue other passengers proved
abortive.
According to the source, “as at (Saturday) evening, four corpses
have been recovered from the river. Efforts will resume today
 again to ensure that others are also found.
“Men of the Nigeria Police and the State Fire Service were part of the rescue
mission. Unfortunately only two of them survived.”
Alhaji Sulyman Aliyu, the Secretary of the Lafiagi Traditional Council, has
confirmed the incident.
Aliyu said the number of the victims could not be ascertained yet, noting that
there was a conflict in the casualty figures.
He said: “Definitely, they are up to twelve . The figure is between twelve and nineteen that you mentioned.”
Alhaji Aliyu also confirmed that four corpses were recovered on Saturday and
that efforts to recover others continued yesterday.
Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer of Kwara Command, DSP Ajayi
Okasanmi, also confirmed the incident.
He said the officers of the force and other security agencies had joined the
local government council to recover the corpses.
He, however, said that the number of the passengers and the victims could not
yet be ascertained yet, as the recovery exercise was still ongoing at press
time.

I Took To Armed Robbery After My Husband Abandoned Me-Female Suspect Confesses

A 25-year-old female robbery suspect, Precious Okoye, has said that she took to crime after her husband abandoned her with their three children and she had to do something to generate income to take care of her children.
Okoye who was arrested recently in Port Harcourt, Rivers state said she was introduced to robbery by one Emeka.
“I used to sell drugs at Rossrous Hotel. I have three children. One day, my husband left us with N1,000 and went to Lagos State. I met Emeka and he promised to introduce me to a business. Emeka knew I was poor and I ended up following them to a robbery operation. I followed them to a house at Bolingo Road in Igurita. We stole household items like generator, stabilizer, Home Theatre, Plasma TV and Gotv decoder. The gang sold the Plasma TV for N20,000 and the DVD for N2,000.
“I was given N500 as my share of the money. After we went for the second operation, I asked Emeka to allow me keep the things we stole for the gang and he agreed. But I later took them all and refused to give them anything, Emeka fought with me but I didn’t listen to him,” she said.
Among the gang members working with Okoye is a 22-year-old named Oliver Nwokocha. He was arrested for shooting a professional golfer during a robbery operation. Nwokocha admitted he shot the victim, identified as Usman Zabadi, but while narrating the scenario surrounding the incident, said he did it in anger.
“We went to another house. The man in that house ran into the kitchen and I followed him. He hit me with a gas cylinder and poured hot pot of soup on me. I got angry and shot him. I didn’t know he died,” Nwokocha said of his victim.
Being a member of a seven-man gang of robbers including Angel, Nwokocha was arrested along with six other suspects, Junior Nmeni, Emeka Iwuayawu, Victor Nwabusis, Sunny Nweke and Ezekiel Ishaya and Angel. The gang allegedly specialised in breaking and entering people’s homes at night.

One of the most harrowing acts of the gang was abducting a 13-year-old girl during one of their robbery operations, raping her and still went ahead to collect ransom from her family before releasing her. The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.

OPC founder, Frederick Fasehun, dies at 83

The founder of Odua Peoples Congress, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, has
died.

Fasehun, it was learnt , died in the early hours of today at the
Lagos State University Teaching Hospital , Ikeja .
The octogenarian, it was learnt , was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the
hospital on Tuesday where he remained until his demise .
Confirming his death to pressmen on the telephone,
Fasehun’ s spokesman, Mr. Adeoye Jolaosho, said the late OPC founder was
confirmed dead after a brief illness .
“ It is true , baba died this morning at the ICU in LASUTH , Ikeja ,” he
said .
Fasehun was born in Ondo Town , Ondo State in 1935.
He was a medical doctor and hotel owner and was responsible for
the recent revival of the Unity Party of Nigeria , a party formed by
the late sage , Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the 1970 s .
He studied science at Blackburn College and furthered his education
at Aberdeen University College of Medicine . He also studied at the
Liverpool Postgraduate School after which he had a Fellowship at
the Royal College of Surgeons, according to Wikipedia .
In 1976 , he studied acupuncture in China under a joint World
Health Organization and United Nations Development Scholarship
Program .
In 1977, he set up an Acupuncture Unit at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. He resigned in 1978 and immediately set up the Besthope Hospital and
Acupuncture Centre in Lagos . The Acupuncture Centre once earned a reputation as Africa ’s first for the Chinese medical practice.
The OPC is a Yoruba - based organization formed to actualise the annulled mandate of Chief MKO Abiola , who won the presidential election of 12 June 1993 but was barred from office .
Fasehun was imprisoned for 19 months from December 1996 to June 1998 during the military rule of Sani Abacha .

Former US president George H.W. Bush, who helped steer America through the end of the Cold War, died yesterday at age 94, his family announced.

"Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died," his son, former president George W. Bush, said in a statement released on Twitter by a family spokesman.
"George H.W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for."
Bush's passing comes just months after the death in April of his wife and revered first lady Barbara Bush -- his "most beloved woman in the world" -- to whom he was married for 73 years.
He is survived by his five children and 17 grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, a family spokesman said.
The US leader was a foreign policy stalwart who declared a "new world order" in 1990 and drove Iraq from Kuwait but saw his military intervention in the Middle East serve as a harbinger of chaos to come.

The decorated war pilot and former CIA chief suffered the ignominy of being a one-term president, denied a second term over a weak economy when he lost the 1992 election to upstart Democrat Bill Clinton.
