11 coronavirus patients discharged in Yaba, Lagos

Eleven coronavirus patients have been discharged from the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor, broke the news in a series of tweets on Thursday evening.

“I am happy to break to you, my good people of Lagos, the news of the release today of 11 more patients from our facility in Yaba,” one of the tweets read.

“They have fully recovered and have tested negative to #COVID19 and have been allowed to return home to their families.”

Edo hospital doctor treating COVID-19 patients tests positive for disease

Aliyu Sokomba, president of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), says one of the members of the association treating COVID-19 patients has tested positive for the disease.

According to the PUNCH, Sokomba, who spoke at a Channels Television programme on Thursday, said the doctor was working at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo state.

He said the welfare of health workers who are at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus and Lassa fever must be addressed if the country would make a headway.

“At the moment, as health workers continue to play their part in containing the spread of the disease, the health workers are not protected,” he said.

“One of our colleagues died just yesterday from Lassa fever. This is the state of our health care institutions and that is the fate of most health care workers in the country.

“Dr. Philp Dzuana is the sixth doctor to have died of Lassa fever in the country and very little is being done to getting this kind of situation under control.

“Just yesterday again, one of our doctors in ISTH, Iruaa, had tested positive for the COVID-19 disease. What that means is that these doctors that are testing positive to various diseases are being left alone to take care of themselves.

“There is no form of life insurance for them. There is no form of compensation. To say the least, what these doctors benefit at the end of every month as hazard allowance is N5,000.”

On Wednesday, the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) at Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH) embarked on a protest to demand protective equipment to carry out their duties.

Nine new coronavirus patients in Osun came into the country by road-Ehanire

Osagie Ehanire, minister of health, says the nine new COVID-19 patients in Osun state came into the country from Benin Republic by road.

At a media briefing of the presidential task force on COVID-19 in Abuja on Wednesday, the minister said the patients were originally coming from Cote d’Ivoire and had passed through Benin Republic from where they were to link their destination by road.

He said the vehicle carrying several people, all Nigerians, was intercepted and the passengers were isolated and tested.

Osun has so far recorded 14 cases of the disease, the third highest in the country. Lagos state has 82 cases while the federal capital territory (FCT) has 28 COVID-19 patients.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, the Osun government allayed the fears of residents over the rising number of COVID-19 patients in the state.

“The State of Osun has recorded an increasing number of confirmed cases in the past few days,” the tweet read.

“This of course isn’t a pleasant development but the good news is that the State is firmly on top of the situation.

“The confirmed cases in the State isn’t a case of community transmission yet, but a situation of transmission within a controlled group. They are returnees from a neighbouring African Country who the State Government proactively received, isolated and tested.”

The yet-to-be identified individual was said to have initially turned down entreaties to report himself to the appropriate quarters. He, however, reportedly submitted himself for test later.

Reacting to the development, the health commissioner had warned those who were in attendance that they are likely to have come in contact with the confirmed case.

Former Marseille President, Diouf dies of Coronavirus

The former Marseille president Pape Diouf has died. Earlier on Tuesday the French club revealed the 68-year-old had been suffering from coronavirus.

Diouf was being treated in a hospital in Senegal, the country of his birth, after contracting the virus.

A statement on Marseille’s Twitter account read: “Olympique de Marseillelearned with great sadness of the death of Pape Diouf. Pape will remain forever in the hearts of Marseillais as one of the great craftsmen of the history of the club. Our condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Coronavirus:American who tested positive evacuated from Nigeria to US

An American citizen diagnosed of COVID-19 in Lagos state has been evacuated to the US.

Akin Abayomi, the state commissioner for health, broke the news in a tweet on Wednesday.

He said the state has recorded 82 coronavirus cases, which is the highest toll recorded by any state in the country.

Abayomi said eight patients have recovered from the disease in the state and have been discharged.

“Total #COVID19 Lagos cases is now 82. 8 patients have so far been discharged following their full recovery. One of the confirmed case who is an American citizen has been evacuated to USA,” the tweet read.

Nigeria has recorded 151 coronavirus cases.

Of the 151 confirmed cases, Lagos has 82; FCT 28, and Osun 14.

Oyo has eight cases, while Ogun and Edo states have four cases each.

Kaduna has three, while Ekiti, Enugu, and Bauchi states have two cases each.

Rivers and Benue states have recorded one case each.

A total of nine persons have recovered from the disease in the country.

Nigeria has recorded only two deaths from the disease so far.

Suleiman Achimugu, a former managing director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), died of the disease and was Nigeria’s first fatality.

Coronavirus: 12 New Infections, Cases Rise to 151 in Nigeria

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has announced 12 new confirmed cases of Coronavirus, taking the total tally so far in the country to 151.

Out of the 12 new cases, nine were recorded in Osun State, two in Edo and one in Ekiti State.

A Twitter post of the NCDC on Wednesday said, “As at 12:30pm April 1, there are 151 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria.”
