The Farm and Infrastructural Foundation (FIF), yesterday, visited Lagos-State House of Assembly for the recognition, protection and fulfilment of food as a fundamental human rights of the Nigerian people.
Speaking at the rally with our correspondent was the President of FIF, Professor Gbolagade Ayoola, said the association is instrumental to the introduction and constitution, to amend the right to food bill at the National Assembly, as food is a fundamental human right not just human need.
According to Prof.Ayoola, food is greater than any other right that our constitution guarantees, but because it is convenient to our government they refused to guarantee the right to food as one of such : this bill has passed through the first reading at the House-of-Representatives likewise the second reading, we only await the passage into law. He said, several activities pertaining to information, education and communication in all parts of the country for about ten years now over this matter including, consultations, communications, documentations, collaborations, and media exposure among other sensitization activities that we have carried out in the past ten years.
In his words, over two million Nigerians at home and abroad have endorsed the need to pass the bill without any delay.
He further demanded the right to food bill before the expiration of the present State Assembly and the Lagos State Assembly should as a matter of urgency pass a motion to the National Assembly to do the same as the State have a good number of representatives in the National Assembly.
Ayoola urged the well meaning people, Traditional Rulers, Opinion Leaders, Politicians, to pledge their support in getting the bill guidely passed and specifically other post seekers so as to get votes from Farmers during dispensation, he added.
