NEMA has received the largest number of 195 stranded Nigerian Returnees in one batch from Libya since the repatriation exercise started in 2017.

The Coordinator of NEMA Territorial Office in Lagos, Alhaji Idris Muhammed who received the Voluntary Returnees at the Cargo Wing of the international wing of the Lagos airport,  MMIA yesterday night, stated that the Returnees were the 69th batch brought back by the IOM in special intervention Programme to repatriate stranded irregular migrants trapped in the war-ravaged Libya with funding by European Union.
Bringing the returnees yesterday night, Al Buraq Air chartered aircraft from Sabha area marked UZ 389/22 with registration number 5A-DMG SEB arrived at the Lagos airport at 8:20 p. m.
According to the Coordinator, the breakdown of the new returnees consists of 71 Female adults, 25 female children and 17 female Infants.
The breakdown of the male returnees showed 60 male adults, 12, male children and 10 male infants.
In all, the females are 113 while males are 82 with adults as 131, children as 37 and infants as 27 including 3 males with minor medical issues and 7 pregnant women.
Welcoming the Returnees back on arrival, the coordinator urged youths to try and look inward and utilize the mOne they waste on embarking on these perilous journeys in Nigeria.
His words: “since the EU has closed their borders for irregular migrants, the journeys through irregular means became wasteful and dangerous.
If you have used the huge amounts of money spent on these fruitless efforts in Nigeria to start a business, you would have been very successful in your endeavours.
“Therefore, you need to strive and embrace Federal Government enabling initiatives to empower the youths.”
