Lagos State Holds Safety Training For Tanker Drivers

The Lagos State Zonal Council of Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Branch of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has observed the National Safety Training programme for tanker drivers on steering in the state.

The training kicked-off at the popular King Celia hotel in Jibowu, Lagos on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 is expected to come to a close on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2019. The training will equally extend to Ibadan at Mauve 21 events centre, Ibadan Adeoyo, roundabout, ring road Ibadan on Thursday 24th October, 2019.

The socially responsible Union noted that the essence of the training was to inculcate and deepen in the tanker drivers the culture of minimum safety standards, compliance to traffic rules and road safety signs, eschewing substance abuse and other risky behaviours while driving, etc.

Chief host of the programme and National Chairman of the Branch, Comrade (Otunba) Salimon Akanni Oladiti, though not physically present but was profoundly applauded and eulogized at the event on account of his vision and impactful services to advance the policy thrust of the PTD as well as safeguarding the economic fortunes of Nigeria, particularly in the petroleum sector value chain, which NUPENG is a critical stakeholder.

In attendance on Tuesday was the General Secretary of NUPENG, Comrade Olawale Afolabi who gave insightful advice to the participants, advising them to justify the essence of the training they received and to also be frugal with their financial resources by saving for the rainy days and avoiding the pitfalls of life which could ruin their future. He used the National Chaiirman of PTD, Comrade (otunba) Salimon Akanni Oladiti as a good and genuine example they can emulate and use as a role model.

Apart from him, others who registered their presence and took active participation were Deputy President of NUPENG, Comrade Solomon Kilanko, Chairman of Lagos Zonal Council of NUPENG, Comrade Tayo Aboyeji, Chairman Lagos Zonal Council of PTD, his Deputy, and the Secretary, Comrade Olabisi Akinlolu, Comrade Omogbolahan Saheed Adigun, and Comrade Lawal Abidoye.

Others were, LASTMA Director on Traffic Management and Survey, Mr. Ositimehin Ayodele and his aide Temitayo Ajayi; Mr. Samuel Obayemi, Assistant Corp Marshal, Zonal Commanding Officer Zone 2 of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) (supervising Lagos/Ogun state) and senior officials of Federal Fire Service, etc.
