Lagos-Ibadan: Govt reopens Kara Bridge today

Tags
The Kara Bridge of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which was partially closed on September 2, will be reopened today, Federal Controller of Works Adedamola Kuti said on Saturday.
Its reopening will ease the gridlock on the Lagos-bound traffic, which motorists have been going through in the past three months.
The bridge was closed to allow Julius Berger work on approximately 600 metres of the road, terminating at the Berger junction in Lagos.

Kuti said the bridge was being reopened  because the contractor has finished work on that section. In a short media message (SMS), Kuti said: “Kara bridge diversion will be removed tomorrow morning having completed work on the section.”
He said the contractor and government engineers are working extra hard to complete other sections along the corridor to give a seamless travel experience to road users and those living along the corridor especially during the yuletide.
He recalled that the federal government had assured Nigerians in September of its determination to complete the rehabilitation of the Kara section before Christmas and the contractor will be removing the obstruction ahead of the deadline.
He said: “It is with this same kind of determination that we are trying very hard to complete other sections along the corridor that needs rehabilitation and we assure Nigerians of our readiness to serve them.”

Just In:Arsenal sack Emery

Tags
Unai Emery has been sacked as manager of
Arsenal.

The Spaniard oversaw a disastrous run of form that
saw his side go seven games without a win for the
first time since 1992.
Touted to be the messiah the Gunners wanted,
Emery, 48, was appointed in the summer of 2018
following the departure of Arsene Wenger.
He guided the Gunners to fifth in his debut
campaign, one point adrift of Spurs, before losing
4-1 to Chelsea in the Europa League final.
His side also went 22 games unbeaten combined
with a run of 11 straight defeats.
However, the past weeks have been disappointing
and the final straw was the Europa League defeat
at home to Frankfurt.
Arsenal on their website said Emery and his
coaching team have been told to leave.
Speaking on behalf of the Arsenal board and
owners Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, Josh
Kroenke said: “Our most sincere thanks go to Unai
and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their
efforts to get the club back to competing at the level
we all expect and demand. We wish Unai and his
team nothing but future success.”
The club said the decision has been taken due to
results and performances not being at the level
required.
Arsenal have asked Freddie Ljungberg to take
responsibility for the first team as interim head
coach adding that they have full confidence in
Freddie to take the club forward.
Already a couple of names have been brandished
to take over at the London club.
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo remains favourite
to take the role with Mikel Arteta also in the
running.
Former Juventus boss Max Allegri remains on the
shortlist while the club could make a stunning
approach for ex-Spurs manager Mauricio
Pochettino.

'Teacher allegedly gave student oral sex in classroom’

Tags
A Texas educator once lauded as her district’s “Teacher of the Year” allegedly performed oral sex on a student in a classroom, authorities said.
Randi Chaverria, a 36-year-old family and consumer science teacher at Round Rock High School, was arrested Tuesday after a student told police she had performed oral on him twice in October, according to an affidavit obtained by KVUE.
Text messages sent between the student and Chaverria – who was named the Secondary Teacher of the Year by the school district in May – appear to be consistent with the teen’s accusations, investigators said.
Parents were notified in an email earlier this month that Chaverria had an improper relationship with a student, prompting to take personal leave. She later resigned from her position on Nov. 19, the station reports.
Round Rock High School Principal Matt Groff told parents that Chaverria had passed a state background check prior to being hired – and had solid prior employment checks, KXAN reported.
“Safety is the top priority of Round Rick High School and Round Rock ISD,” Groff wrote in the letter. “Ensuring a safe and secure learning environment requires partnership between students, parents, campus and district staff, as well as law enforcement.”

Chaverria, who had taught for the past six years, credited her family’s passion for education when she was recognized for her excellence in the classroom.
“The most important role of a teacher is to help shape future generations to become successful members of our community,” Chaverria said earlier this year. “More than any curriculum I teach my students, I hope that they will walk away from my classroom thinking of ways that they can make a difference in their community and impact the lives of others for the better.”
Chaverria also led the school’s Adopt-A-Child community service project, district officials said.
She has been released on bond after turning herself in to authorities at the Williamson County Jail on charges of improper relationship between educator and student, KVUE reported.

Copyright Infringement: 2baba, Black Face settle out of court

Tags
The former members of Plantashun Boyz, Innocent
‘2baba’ Idibia and Ahmedu ‘Black Face’ Obiabo
have finally ended their three-year dispute.

Both artistes opted for an out-of-court settlement
for their ongoing copyright infringement battle in
Lagos today.
2baba reached an out-of-court settlement with
Black Face, whom he filed a N50 million libel suit
against.
The erstwhile best friends came to an agreement at
a mediation process held in the presence of 2baba’s
manager, Efe Omorogbe, and Black Face’s lawyer,
Manny Enajeroh, in Lagos on Wednesday.
A mediator, Ronke Kuku, oversaw the process at the
Ikeja High Court Alternative Dispute Resolution
Centre (ADR) section.
After the successful mediation, Blackface promised
not to publicly accuse 2baba again while 2baba
agreed to make all the necessary corrections and
amendments that had prevented Black Face from
receiving royalties.
Black Face had claimed ownership of two of
2baba’s biggest hits, ‘Let Somebody Love You’ and
‘African Queen’ in the last three years.
A source revealed the outcome of the mediation
process to PREMIUM TIMES under the condition of
anonymity.
The source, involved in the process, said, “The
settlement is confidential and was done behind
closed doors. The true story is that Black Face’s
name was misspelt on the tracklisting for ‘Let
Somebody Love You’ which was written by him and
performed by 2baba.
“This created some problems and prevented Black
Face from claiming royalties from the song from
the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) and other
collecting societies.
“So both parties agreed to regularise Black Face’s
position as the writer (owner) of ‘African queen’
and get all the royalties from the track. Both
lawyers decided that mediation was better than a
court trial since both artistes are friends.
On his part, 2baba agreed to regularise all the places where Black
Face was not initially credited. When both artistes met each other in
a room today, they discussed like brothers and trashed all the issues
they had against each other.”
Black Face’s counsel, Mani Enajeroh, declined to comment when
contacted. 2baba’s manager also did not respond to calls and text
messages from PREMIUM TIMES.
Background
Blackface had levelled several allegations of song theft against 2Baba
on social media.
He claimed to have written the songs while both of them were
members of the defunct Plantashun Boyz.
2baba responded by filing a N50 million libel suit against Black
Face.
The case was brought before Justice Oyefeso for the first time on
March 20, but the ruling was adjourned.
After Plantashun Boiz split in 2004, Black Face led a solo musical
career.
He released the hip-hop album Ghetto Child in 2004, collaborating
with a number of artistes.
He also recorded a full album for his crew, D Tribunal, called What
We Are.
In 2013, he made a collaborative album 200 with Maine Eazz.
In January 2016, Black Face in a series of tweets lashed out at 2baba
and his manager, accusing them of stealing his intellectual property
and even threatening to take them to court.
Since then, Black Face has refused to renege on his statements.
Black Face, 2Baba and Faze, members of Plantashun Boiz, reunited
in 2007 for an album called ‘Plan B’.

Nolywood Screen top shot, Elvin Ibru, today said she would love to meet the armed robber who raped her in 2004.
Ibru, a star actress, who played the role of Mopelola in the blockbuster movie, “Bling Lagosians” in an interview with the Newsmen urged rape victims to speak out.
She said that having experienced the ugly incident, there was a need for others to take a cue from what she had been through which suggested her advocacy group.
“I was raped by an armed robber in 2004, it wasn’t my fault and not an incident that warrants me taking up microphone about, so I set up an advocacy group to address it.
“The group is to manage the young and old ones who had been through the same ugly incident like me. I know if I had to go all out to media about the situation, it will fizzle out.
“However, it is not something I have been silent about; I don’t know the person that raped me, but I will meet him again, I know I will meet him,” she said.
The multi-talented, actor, producer, director and writer, Ibru urged Nollywood stakeholders to be professional in their conduct, adding that the industry needed the touch of core professionals.
“Although I can say that I am not a veteran in the movies because I just spiced up my acting recently, but I have been on stage for a long time.
“What I can bring to the table for my colleagues is that they must be professional with their jobs as much as possible.

“There are times that we need to up our games as actors, producers and other professions in the film making industry; we need to be professional and do things right.
“The fault in our movies did not just happen because we lack money, they also come with the way we handle things as professionals, though, money is also a big factor.
“There are other things that are attached to film making which we need to look at to move the industry forward,” she said.

I was born on July 17 1990 into the family of Mr and Mrs Jacob Gowon.
I am the first born of the family.I am a native of Kogi-State.

I was known professionally as "mpj" am a Rapper /singer and I'm a song writer.

I started my musical career few years ago with a group known as 3zeez in Kogi state. I'm an upcoming Artist.

In 2008 the group did there first recording single which was titled "ibedu."

In that same year I was planing to write my West Africa Examination was looking at the condition of my family  on how they sufferred to generate fund for my exam, I was looking on how to contribute  with  God to my family.

I called the attention of my group after I had done my registration with the little money remaining we left for Lagos to see if we can get a marketer  that can buy our single.

We spent three days on the street of Lagos looking for marketer that will buy the song from us and we had no money nothing to eat no where to sleep for good three days.
We cleaned ourselves with just a pure water and ate a slice of bread as breakfast  and also for evening sleep at bus station and wake up very early so that people will not see us.

After searching we met Mr AHBU ventures he listened to our song and he told us that the song is just a single and the single was not properly mixed by the producer which  was our first single.

He said to us that I love the rapper in the song and he rated the song fourty over one-hundred.
He encouraged us never to give up our vision in life that sky is our limit
Just that word gave me a stand mind set towards life.

Coming back to Kogi state was hell we had no money on us we have to go and beg people, sold our phones the money we made in the bus state could only pay for two seats to kogi  and we were three I asked them to sit while I stood to kogi state.

Before we got home information had gotten to my parents  that we left school to Lagos.

My parents were mad at me but after sometime I explained myself to them that I can not look at how they are suffering themselves for me to get a life when I know those who graduated from the university without good job. U.S. accuses Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, for fraud

Tags
Allen Ifechukwu Athan Onyema , the chairman,
CEO, and founder of Air Peace, a Nigerian airline,
has been charged with bank fraud and money
laundering for moving more than $20 million from
Nigeria through United States bank accounts in a
scheme involving false documents based on the
purchase of airplanes.
The international airline’s Chief of Administration
and Finance, Ejiroghene Eghagha, has also been
charged with bank fraud and committing
aggravated identity theft in connection with the
scheme.
“Onyema allegedly leveraged his status as a
prominent business leader and airline executive
while using falsified documents to commit fraud,”
said U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak. “We will
diligently protect the integrity of our banking
system from being corrupted by criminals, even
when they disguise themselves in a cloak of
international business.”
Robert J. Murphy, the Special Agent in Charge of
the DEA Atlanta Field Division commented on the
indictment, “Allen Onyema’s status as a wealthy
businessman turned out to be a fraud. He
corrupted the U.S. banking system, but his trail of
deceit and trickery came to a skidding halt. DEA
would like to thank the many law enforcement
partners and the subsequent prosecution by the
U.S. Attorney’s Office who aided in making this
investigation a success.”
“This case is a prime example of why IRS-CI seeks
to partner and leverage its expertise in an effort to
thwart those seeking to exploit our nation’s
financial system,” said Thomas J. Holloman, IRS-
Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge of
the Atlanta Field Office.
“With the importance of our banking system to the
movement of money around the world, those
attempting to use intricate schemes to commit bank
fraud through the use of falsified documents and
other means should know that the odds are now
heavily stacked against them as law enforcement is
combining its talents to protect the sanctity and
integrity of the nation’s financial system.”
“Onyema setup various innocent-sounding multi-
million dollar asset purchases which were nothing
more than alleged fronts for his scam,” said acting Special Agent in
Charge Robert Hammer, who oversees HSI operations in Georgia
and Alabama.
“I’m proud to be part of a team of law enforcement agencies that
come together to identify and attack criminals that attempt to profit
from the exploitation of our nation’s financial systems.”
According to U.S. Attorney Pak, the indictment, and other
information presented in court: Mr Onyema, a Nigerian citizen and
businessman, is the founder and Chairman of several organizations
that purport to promote peace across Nigeria, including the
Foundation for Ethnic Harmony, International Centre for Non-
Violence and Peace Development, and All-Time Peace Media
Communications Limited.
Beginning in 2010, Onyema began travelling frequently to Atlanta,
where he opened several personal and business bank accounts.
Between 2010 and 2018, over $44.9 million was allegedly
transferred into his Atlanta-based accounts from foreign sources.
Mr Onyema is also the CEO and Chairman of Nigerian airline Air
Peace, which he founded in 2013. In years following the founding of
Air Peace, he travelled to the United States and purchased multiple
airplanes for the airline. However, over $3 million of the funds used
to purchase the aircraft allegedly came from bank accounts for
Foundation for Ethnic Harmony, International Centre for Non-
Violence and Peace Development, All-Time Peace Media
Communications Limited, and Every Child Limited.
Beginning in approximately May 2016, Mr Onyema, together with
Mr Eghagha, allegedly used a series of export letters of credit to
causing banks to transfer more than $20 million into Atlanta-based
bank accounts controlled by Mr Onyema.
The letters of credit were purportedly to fund the purchase of five
separate Boeing 737 passenger planes by Air Peace. The letters were
supported by documents such as purchase agreements, bills of sale,
and appraisals proving that Air Peace was purchasing the aircraft
from Springfield Aviation Company LLC, a business registered in
Georgia.
However, the supporting documents were fake — Springfield
Aviation Company LLC, which is owned by Mr Onyema and
managed by a person with no connection to the aviation business,
never owned the aircraft, and the company that allegedly drafted
the appraisals did not exist.
Mr Eghagha allegedly participated in this scheme as well, directing
the Springfield Aviation manager to sign and send false documents
to banks and even using the manager’s identity to further the
fraud. After Mr Onyema received the money in the United States, he
allegedly laundered over $16 million of the proceeds of the fraud by
transferring it to other accounts.
Mr Onyema, 56, of Lagos, Nigeria, and Mr Eghagha, 37, of Lagos,
Nigeria, were indicted on November 19, 2019, on one count of
conspiracy to commit bank fraud, three counts of bank fraud, one
count of conspiracy to commit credit application fraud, and three
counts of credit application fraud. Additionally, Mr Onyema was
charged with 27 counts of money laundering, and Mr Eghagha was
charged with one count of aggravated identity theft.
Members of the public are reminded that the indictment only
contains charges. The defendants are presumed innocent of the
charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove the
defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, Internal Revenue Service
Criminal Investigation, U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, Federal Aviation
Administration, Department of Commerce, and Department of
Treasury are investigating this case.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Garrett L. Bradford, Deputy Chief of the
Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Section and Lead Strike Force
Attorney, Irina K. Dutcher, and Christopher J. Huber, Deputy Chief of
the Complex Frauds Section, are prosecuting the case, with
assistance from the Department of Justice’s Money Laundering and
Asset Recovery Section and Office of International Affairs.
This prosecution was brought as a part of the Department of
Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF)
Co-located Strike Forces Initiative, which enables agents from
different agencies to collaborate on intelligence-driven, multi-
jurisdictional operations against a continuum of priority targets and
their affiliate illicit financial networks.
These prosecutor-led co-located Strike Forces capitalize on the
synergy created through the long-term relationships that can be
forged by agents, analysts, and prosecutors who remain together
over time, and they epitomize the model that has proven most
effective in combating organized crime. The specific mission of the
Atlanta Strike Force is to disrupt and dismantle the most significant
drug trafficking and money laundering organizations designated as
Consolidated Priority Organization Targets or Regional Priority
Organization Targets and their affiliates impacting the Atlanta
metropolitan area and the Northern District of Georgia.

The Goal is ahead of you and not behind you, you must continue to defy all obstacles to meet the goal. We are bound to succeed if we continue to try and try and never give up. #JustLikeBurna.Everyone has their goal. I almost gave up on mine in the early days of MAVIN.
