FIF Visit Lagos Assembly For Implementation of Right To Food Bill

The Farm and Infrastructural Foundation (FIF),  yesterday, visited Lagos-State House of Assembly for the recognition, protection and fulfilment of food as a fundamental human rights of the Nigerian people.

Speaking at the rally with our correspondent  was the President of FIF,  Professor Gbolagade Ayoola, said the association is instrumental to the introduction and constitution, to amend the right to food bill at the National Assembly, as food is a fundamental human right not just human need.

According to Prof.Ayoola, food is greater than any other right that our constitution guarantees, but because it is convenient to our government they refused to guarantee the right to food as one of such : this bill has passed through the  first reading at the House-of-Representatives likewise the second reading, we only await the passage into law. He said, several activities pertaining to information, education and communication in all parts of the country for about ten years now over this matter including, consultations, communications, documentations, collaborations, and media exposure among other sensitization activities that we have carried out in the past ten years.
In his words, over two million Nigerians at home and abroad have endorsed the need to pass the bill without any delay.

He further demanded the right to food bill before the expiration of the present State Assembly and the Lagos State Assembly should as a matter of urgency pass a motion to  the National Assembly to do the same as the State have a good number of representatives in the National Assembly.
Ayoola urged the well meaning  people, Traditional Rulers, Opinion Leaders,  Politicians, to pledge their support in getting the bill guidely passed and specifically other post seekers so as to get votes from Farmers during dispensation, he added.

Father of 2 children found dead in freezer transferred to CID

Mr. Micheal Edeh, father to the two children and their dog found dead in a
freezer at Igbogbo-Baiyeku area of Ikorodu has been transferred to the Criminal
Investigation Department, CID, Panti, Yaba.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, who disclosed
this yesterday, said that Edeh, who is now a suspect, was transferred to CID
for further interrogation to ascertain the real cause of the children’s death.
“I have confirmed the matter and the CP directed that the father of the
deceased be brought to notice to know his ulterior motive or whether it is an
act of negligence,” Oti said.
Recall that when the incident happened on Sunday, the residence of Mr. and
Mrs Edeh was found under lock and key and the flat was empty and deserted.

One of the neighbours, who did not want his name mentioned, said: “It is only
God that can determine the root causes of the death of the children.
“How can the children die in such a manner and their father was inside the
house sleeping?
“I think it is beyond human imagination, the only thing that could be done is an
autopsy to educate them on the real cause of the children’s death.”
Another neighbour, Mr. Kamoru Adewale, said “since the matter has been
handed over to the Police, everything will be done to unravel the mystery
behind the deaths.”
All efforts to get a community leader to react to the incident proved abortive.

Sleeping in vehicles: Abuja’s new way of life

Sleeping inside the vehicle till the next day is not funny; it is risky. But what can one do when houses in Abuja are expensive for low income earners?”

Saidu Ibrahim, 38, has special love for his Honda Acura car. He makes anybody around him to know that. “I worship this car you are seeing. I am ready to die with anybody that plays with it,” the insurance worker told Pressmen.

Ibrahim’s love for the car is not because of its sleekness or cutthroat cost. It is not on account of the fact that the car facilitates his movements. Rather it is because it serves as his home. “The car is my home and my everything. Losing this car is like losing my soul and liver,” he declared.

Ibrahim is not alone on this. Growing number of residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, are converting their vehicles to bedrooms.

Every morning, some are seen crawling out of their vehicles where they pass the night. Not only do they sleep inside, they have their belongings tucked inside the booths of the vehicles. They always have sachet water, toothpaste and brush, and possibly mouthwash.

When the day breaks and Ibrahim wants to take his bath, he visits nearby hotels, pays a token of N100 and cleans up.

Investigations show that most people who indulge in the emerging lifestyle are men. They are seen everywhere, especially in hotel parking lots, motor parks, churches, school premises and sometimes, beside the fences of some homes.

This act is sometimes, facilitated by security personnel manning the areas, who tax these people before allowing them to park and doze off.

The growing habit has largely been attributed to the lack of affordable accommodation. Some people are of the opinion that practitioners are those who are involved in some domestic issues with their partners.

For 35-year-old commercial driver, Peter Jonas, the act is usually carried out when he travels outside his area of residence and does not have money to lodge: “I sleep inside my vehicle whenever I ferry passengers far from my home. Rather than risk my life or spend unnecessary money, I park in a safe place and sleep.

“If the heat is too much I wind down the glasses; but when it is cold, I wind up. You have to do that carefully so that you don’t die of suffocation. Even at that mosquitoes feed on us. But there is nothing someone can do. We must work hard to fend for the family.”

He also disclosed that the act has become very popular amongst drivers and traders, especially when there is fuel scarcity: “We, drivers, sleep in our vehicles to enable us wake up early to get fuel when we hear of scarcity. Not only that, when our houses do not have parking space, we give vigil inside to protect our battery from thieves.”

The case of Biodun Ajayi, 40, is different. Since he lost his job and unable to pay his rent he has turned his car to his bedroom. He explained that the continuous harassments from his landlord forced him to adopt the strategy pending when he would raise enough money to pay up the rent:

“Life is not easy. I stay in a two-bedroom apartment. Since I lost my job about one year ago, life has not been fair to me laced with the constant harassment from my landlord.

“Sleeping inside the vehicle till the next day is not funny; it is risky. But what can one do when houses in Abuja are expensive for low income earners or jobless youths?”

Mr. Musa Abdul, narrated how he was severely beaten the day he slept in his car when it packed up. “It was in December last year, when my car was faulty around the Central Business District. Since it was late, I decided to sleep inside till the next morning. In the middle of the night, some guys, banged on my car and tried to open the door. As soon as they noticed that someone was inside, they intensified the banging until I opened the door.

“They dispossessed me of my money, phones and removed my car battery not without beating me thoroughly. Since that encounter, I have made up mind to always go home no matter how late to avert such brutality.”

Wig Wash
Before washing, detangle your wig! Brush the unit thoroughly with a wig brush starting from the tips and work your way to top. If it is A tight curled wig, run your fingers through it. In a wash basin, with lukewarm water, rinse from root to ends. Using your hands, work premium shampoo, through the hair. Use circular hand motion to clean the wig cap. Shampoo will get rid of dirt, smoke or grease. Gently apply conditioner through the body of the wig and leave on for 2minutes to allow penetrate and soften the hair. Rinse the wig gently in cold water until all of the conditioner is totally removed. After rinsing, lightly squeeze and press hair.

Drying
Make sure you never wrap your wig in a towel. Instead, shake excess water off after thoroughly rinsing and pat dry. Always air-dry your wig units so they can retain their natural style. Air drying retains the curl pattern more and also prevents heat damage so your wigs last even longer.

After Drying
Lightly spray your wig with leave-in-conditioner and comb. To keep your purchase looking fresh, use little drops of Argan oil to style and add moisture to the wig. Always use heat protectant spray or blame before using and heat on your wig. Consider using a steam pod straightenter and curler for a silk press. How Often?
Wash usually twice every month and deep condition once a month if it is everyday wear. If you alternate between several wigs, you can plan for every 5-7weeks. However, if you wear your unit for long periods or longer hours and you sweat a lot, consider washing your unit once a week.

SPORTEPL: Alexis Sanchez’s possible next club revealed after deciding to leave Man United

Manchester United striker, Alexis Sanchez’s next club has been revealed.

 United is open to selling Sanchez during the transfer window in January after the forward decided to leave Old Trafford.

Sanchez joined the Red Devils in a player-swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan join Arsenal.

The Chilean earns around £400,000-a-week at Old Trafford but has just netted four goal and has been dropped by manager, Jose Mourinho in recent weeks.

But Spanish television show, El Chiringuito, is now reporting that Sanchez has instructed his agent, Fernando Felicevich to find him a new club, and his representative has begun talks with Real Madrid.

The report also claimed that Felicevich is discussing the possibility of Sanchez making a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the January transfer window

Sanchez will hope to feature for United when they take on Crystal Palace on November 24 in the Premier League.

Senate laments slow pace of work on Lagos-lbadan road, others

 Expressway for completion in 2021, says contractor
The contractor handling the reconstruction of the Lagos-lbadan Express Way, Messrs Julius Berger Nigeria Limited yesterday disclosed that the project would be delivered in 2021.

The Operations Manager of the company, Mr. Thank Olaf, gave the date while addressing members of the Senate Committee on Works who were on inspection tour of projects in Lagos as part of their oversight functions. He said the delay was caused by stoppage of works on the project due to funding and additional facilities such as flyovers, u-turns and under parks, among others.

“Originally, it was two lanes, but now it has been widened to three lanes for each side. The delivery date for the project is 2021. Normally, it was to be completed in 2017 but four years were added because of additional works. There was the shutting down of the project for two times because of funding challenges, that is why we asked for extension of time. Instead of using lateritic surface, we are converting to stone-based to relief the cost of maintaining the road and make it last long”.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Kabiru Gaya, who said a lot of money had been invested on roads, stated that the committee was not happy with the speed of work on the project. He urged the contractor to increase the pace.“We are visiting 27 states to inspect ongoing project and we are here not just to see the road but to supervise and check the level of work done so far. The road is going to take care of huge volume of traffic, but we are not happy with the slow speed."

Gaya said: “We expected that the project should have been completed. We are not taking it lightly because we are not happy with the progress. The project has been there for many years and we intend to come back around December 16/17 to inspect it again because funding has been provided.”
