‘I Wole Soyinka will not be voting for either Buhari or Atiku’

Tags
Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka has said that: ‘I Wole Soyinka will not be voting
for either the two so called contesting parties. I find both of them worthy of
absolute rejection.’

Soyinka made this known today in an ongoing interactive session tagged citizen
forum 2019.
He said “It is time for a totally new direction, and when an alternative emerges, we will give the candidate our backing,”
“For the avoidance of doubt, let me make my position quite clear because I
don’t want any ambiguity; I Wole Soyinka will not be voting for either the two
so called contesting parties. I find both of them worthy of absolute rejection,”
he said.

“For a number of reasons which I will not go into here, I’m not interested in a
comparative assessment. My position is simply that it is time for a totally new
direction. And obviously, I’m not the only one, as I’m speaking, there is a
coalition having its meeting in Lagos from which they hope to produce a
consensus candidate.
“There is another group meeting in Abuja, also at the end would send us their
consensus candidate. Things have been going on quietly in the background to
try and change the direction of this nation in a very positive way, and to make
the public understand that they do not have to be enslaved permanently to the
old discredited order. It is my sole business in this election.
“I don’t believe in what is called negative vote which means, for me, throwing
your vote in a waste basket, I believe instead in a creative vote, not a protest
vote, not a negative vote but a creative vote. And a creative vote means that
the will to at least sow a seed through your vote that will germinate eventually.
The pace of germination is beyond the control of everyone, but it is never too
early to make a beginning. It has happened before in other societies. When a
dark horse emerges from nowhere and trumps all the political juggernauts
caterpillars and so on with their performers, worthless, their capacity for
violence and treachery.”

Why I gave EFCC 300m-Atiku

Tags

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has revealed that he gave the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) N300million, when it was launched in 2004.

Atiku declared this on The Candidate, a presidential town hall conversation, that was aired on The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) yesterday night.
The former vice-president was responding to a question, on how he would make the anti-graft agency independent and able to discharge its duties on time without preferential treatment.
According to Atiku, the EFCC had no budgetary allocation to begin operation when it was launched.
“My quarrel with the judicial system is that there is too much delay. If we can shorten the delay, so that justice is seen to be meted out immediately, better for us.
“The problem is the legislation and the procedure being adopted by the judiciary. The cases we initiated in our administration are still in court. Now, where is the justice?
“When we set up the EFCC, I personally brought the first draft of the regulation from Brazil and it was based on that draft that the EFCC legislation was drafted.
“When it was finally passed by the national assembly, EFCC did not even have the money in the budget to start operation. I borrowed them N300m from the privatisation proceeds and said ‘you better get to work’.
“The following year when there was budgetary allocations, they repaid the money. Most of the convictions that we are hearing today were cases that we started in our administration,” he said

Strike: ASUU receives licence to run pension scheme

Tags
The Academic State Union of Universities, ASUU, yesterday, received the
certificate of operation for Nigerian University Pension Management Company,
NUPEMCO, from National Pension Commission, the regulatory agency for the
country’s pension companies.
The refusal of the regulatory agency to approve the teachers’ union’s pension
commission for operation was one of the major issues in the dispute between
ASUU and the Federal Government.
But President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in a short message sent across
to members of the union, yesterday, said ASUU received the certificate at
about 11:20 a.m.

Ogunyemi thanked members of the union for standing solidly behind the
leadership while the struggle lasted, pledging the union’s commitment to
achieving reform in the Nigerian university system.
FG, ASUU Meeting Inconclusive Says Ogunyemi
The text message read in part: “Dear Comrade, We collected the final letter of
approval of NUPEMCO operational license at about 11.20a.m in PENCOM
office. Profound appreciation goes to all who prepared the ground and made
this possible.”
While congratulating all our members for this landmark achievement of the
union, we also thank them for their patience. The struggle continues! Biodun
Ogunyemi.”
Prof. Ogunyemi had earlier told the newsmen that the leadership
was still consulting with its members over offers made by the federal
government.
According to him, the government made some offers in the course of meetings
with ASUU, which are still being deliberated on.
“We are still consulting with our chapters across the country. There are
promises that government made and we are trying to consult with the various
university chapters on the options before the union.
“By the time we are fully aware of what is left of our demands from what the
government is offering, then we will know what steps to take, even as
negotiations with the government continues.
“For instance, we are in touch with about 20 universities that are affected, to
be sure of the level of implementation.
“By the time we finish our assessment, we will now send our response back to
the government, concerning the level of implementation. And depending on the
outcome of our further engagements with government, we will now get back to
our members.”
Ogunyemi said ASUU was expected to be involved in another round of meeting
with the government within the week, adding that he expected a positive
outcome.

4 amazing facts you need to know about marriage

Today, many question the viability and validity of marriage and openly wonder if it should continue to be esteemed as the bedrock of modern social development.

This write-up is a combination of knowledge acquired and summarised from prolific writers' and programmes attended. Also, the epidemic and explosive rise of the divorce rate adds further to the need of sharing this knowledge gathered on the blog....Enjoy your reading.Do have a wonderful weekend as the last weekend in the month of January.I say congratulations to you for the gift of life.

1.Marriage is Honorable
Some time ago during a singles and married programme I had the opportunity to attend a married couple who were at the verge of divorce shared their awful experience. The man began pouring hideout about how much he loved his wife, and yet nothing seemed to be working right.Continual pressure and friction in their relationship had brought them to the point of being ready to call it quits.Things had gotten so bad that they were not even sleeping in the same bed.As they unfolded their troubles the pastor shared with them the most basic cause of marital failure, which is when people do not understand that marriage itself is honorable, more so than those who are involved in it.
He said "success in marriage does not depend on spouses committing themselves to Each OTHER as much as it does to committing themselves to MARRIAGE, the unchanging institution that they have MUTUALLY entered into".
Marriage is a steady unchanging institution entered into by two people who are constantly changing as they grow and mature. Those changes can be unnerving and frustrating and can easily ignite conflict.Respect for the honorableness and stability of marriage can give a husband and wife a solid anchor that enables them weather the storm's of change as they grow toward oneness.

2. Know that, Marriage is Not Who You Love, But What You Love
The Bible represents marriage as an institution that should be highly respected and esteemed above all other institutions. Hebrews 13:4 says "Marriage should be honoured by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral." The King James Version reads, "Marriage is Honorable in all...."  The term "Honorable", which also means "valuable, costly, honoured, esteemed, beloved and precious."All means "all".Marriage then should be valued and esteemed, and held in highest honour at all times in all things by all people everywhere. That is God's design for marriage.A common notion with most people is that the parties in a marriage- the husband and the wife- should honour each other and hold each-other  in high esteem. One of the keys to a long and happy marriage is understanding that it is not whom you love, but what you love that is important.

3. It is expedient to always remember the popular adage that says "Change is the only constant thing": The person we marry is not the person we will live with, because that person is changing all the time.Today wife will change from the same woman you married, physically and all other way you can ever think of.Likewise the husband. That is why marriage itself is to be honoured and esteemed more than the two people who are in it.People change, but marriage is constant. So we must love marriage more than our spouse.

4.Finally, A successful marriage Depends on Knowledge
Knowledge is the answer.A successful marriage has little to do with love.Love does not guarantee success in marriage according to successful theorist in this institution. "Love is very important for happiness in marriage but by itself it cannot make a marriage work". The only thing that makes marriage work is knowledge. In Hoses 4:6a God says, "My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge".My people refers to children of God.Even Christians need knowledge. Proverbs 1:7 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline"....
Ultimately, marriage will not survive on love alone, or on feelings. By itself, just being born again is not enough to guarantee success. A successful marriage hinges on knowledge-knowing and understanding God's principles.

Oby Ezekwesili withdraws from presidential race

Tags
The presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria Dr
Oby Ezekwesili today withdrew from the race to dislodge
President Muhammadu Buhari from Aso Villa , her campaign
spokesman Ozioma Ubabukoh said .

She confirmed her exit from the race shortly after Ubabukoh broke
the news.
“ I have decided to step down from the presidential race and focus
on helping to build a Coalition for a viable alternative to the
# APCPDP in the 2019 general elections, ” Ezekwesili said today.

Ezekwesili, a former World Bank vice president for Africa , was one
of the bright sparks in a presidential campaign that has seen the two
leading political parties – ruling All Progressives Congress and
People’s Democratic Party – regurgitate tired talking points .
Ezekwesili was one of the three candidates that participated in the
debate held for presidential candidates on Saturday . The decision to
quit came after series of consultations were held in the days after
the debate .
She, however, insisted she was ready to help build a viable coalition
that will wrestle power from the APC / PDP binary .
“ I have not hesitated to offer my willingness to step down my
candidacy in order to facilitate the emergence of a strong and viable
alternative behind which Nigerians can line up in our collective
search for a new beginning ,” Ezekwesili said .
A reluctant politician, she told newsmen in November 2018 that
having to choose between the PDP and APC was not the best way
forward for Africa ’s most populous country .
“ I never had interest in politics . Anyone who knows me knows that I
detest politics ,” she says . “ But I had to get to the place where
listening to the political class say to us that we have to choose the
lesser of two evils got me infuriated. ”

“ What we are doing now is to correct the abnormality, restore order
and bring the Police closer to the people,” Mba said .
“ This is just a tip of the iceberg among very many reforms IGP
Mohammed Adamu is bringing in the Force , ” he added.
Mba opined that the decentralisation of FSARS will bring the police
close to the people and reduced bottleneck .
Newsmen reported how the acting Inspector General of Police
(IGP ), Muhammed Adamu, Monday ordered the immediate
decentralisation of operations of the Federal Special Anti - Robbery
Squad (FSARS ) unit .
Immediate past IGP , Ibrahim Idris, had centralised operations of
SARS into FSARS at the force headquarters and placed it under the
Deputy Inspector - General of Police (Operations ), as part of the
reforms of the squad .
The decentralisation has since generated controversies.
Unfortunately for those celebrating, # EndSARS # ReformPoliceNG
just got reborn with this chaotic pronouncement . We are back to
where it all started ,” Segun Awosanya, ENDSARS convener tweeted
on Monday.
“ This rearrangement is just going to fuel corruption and lure the
Commissioners of police into deploying SARS as political party
Thugs,” he added.

Breaking!!!FG releases 163billion to ASUU

Tags
The Federal Government said it has released N163 billion to the universities from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), but striking academics are stalling in calling off their strike.
Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, said this while addressing newsmen after a closed door reconciliatory meeting with leaders of Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) yesterday in Abuja.
Newsmen recalls that the striking lecturers embarked on strike on Nov. 5, 2018, to press home their demands.
ASUU demands included some areas of understanding in the implementation of the Memorandum of Action agreed in 2017.
Some of these areas include shortfall in salaries of some Federal Universities’ workers and lecturers, earned allowances, revitalisation that were part of the 2009 agreement, among others.
According to Ngige, yesterday we agreed to fund revitalisation.
“Government has released about N163 billion from TETFund account to universities.
“So, we have gotten some substantial agreement in most of the areas of the agreement.
“Most of the issues have being resolved, so they are going to go back to their members and present government’s offer to their council,‘’ he said.
Ngige also said that the striking lecturers were not asking for N50 billion before they would call off the strike.
He, however, added that if the total amount of the union’s demand was aggregated it would be more than the N50 billion as the government was paying in different compartments.
“These are debts of 2009, owed by the past administration, that is 2009 to 2012, so it is not our own debt and we have been doing a lot to settle these debts.
“So, we will be reconvening at the instance of ASUU. They said they want to go and consult with their members and they cannot call off the strike without consulting with their members,’’ he said.
Earlier, the minister had said that President Muhammadu Buhari had mandated him to ensure that all issues concerning the ongoing strike in the university system were resolved.
“The president has directed me to pass the night here until all issues that have kept our children away from schools are resolved and strike called off.
“He has also directed me to impress upon you, the imperative of little sacrifice from all sides, knowing fully well that the revenue of the federation has dwindled from what it was before the present administration assumed office,” he said.
Ngige further said President Buhari was greatly worried about the situation in the university system, hence his steady and holistic approach to tackling the rot through adequate funding.
“Mr president told me to assure you of his determination to reposition our universities as he would do everything possible to cast the present challenges in our tertiary education to dustbin of history.
Also, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President, said that there were still some grey areas in the proposal presented by the Federal Government.
He said the union would look at the grey areas and would get back to the government.
“The most critical area is the revitalisation, because it is central to our work, as academics and unless that area is addressed our members will have issues with ongoing action.
“We also did not ask for N50 billion, we are saying that the minimum we expect government to release in order to reactive the revitalisation fund is N50 billion.
“So, the strike is still on,’’ he said.

What FG should do to suspend strike-ASUU

Tags
National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, has said the only condition the union would consider to suspend the ongoing nationwide strike is for the Federal Government to pay, at least, N50 billion Revitalisation Fund; out of one tranche of N220 billion.
Prof. Ogunyemi told newsmen in Ibadan, at the weekend, ahead of the union’s scheduled meeting with the federal government, today, that the federal government must also present concrete evidence of implementation of the promised N20 billion Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) and how the balance of N85 billion would be paid; with timelines.
According to Ogunyemi, the union and government, since the strike started, “have had seven meetings. We have been having promises. We have demanded that some of their promises, which we took back to our members, some items on their list, have been rejected. And, there have been demands for the review. We want them to pay, immediately, N50 billion as a sign of commitment this quarter and, for the next three quarters, government can pay N50 billion each quarter. So, our members have rejected the N20 billion they proposed  that will be spread over two quarters in 2019. Our members have insisted on the release of at least N50 billion.
“In relation to EAA, which they have an outstanding N105 billion, our members are saying even if you (government) are releasing N20 billion, let it be stated clearly that it is only for ASUU members and the balance which you promised to pay in four instalments, attach timelines to the balance and figures.
“In 2017, this government promised to mainstream the EAA into the budget so that we won’t be coming to talk about arrears. If government had put that into the 2018 budget, we would not be talking about arrears now. Our members are saying government should take steps, mainstream it into the 2019 budget and that is note late because they (National Assembly) are still working on the budget.”
Ogunyemi also disclosed promises by the federal government that it would address the issue by January 23. We have gone beyond these promises. In fact, the first meeting we had, we were told that before the end of the week, the matter would be resolved. But, that was government speaking. After that first meeting, we have had some other six meetings, yet, we are still relating to promises. We don’t really take government’s promises seriously again because we have heard promises upon promises.
“What our members told us, when we were starting this meeting, was, ‘come back with concrete evidence of implementation.’ And, we have told them (government) in clear terms. By the way, let me also tell you that today, we are meeting again, and we are still hoping that concrete evidence on implementation will be put on the table.
“So, that is what our members have been talking about. The National Executive Council of ASUU is our principal, and, each time we engage government, we keep reminding them that our members said or our NEC said ‘don’t come back to us unless you have concrete evidence of implementation.’ So, on that we stand.”
ASUU began an indefinite strike on November 2018 and accused government of not implementing the Memorandum of Action signed with it. The union declared that the industrial action would be total as all federal and state varsities would join the strike. The union made the announcement after a NEC meeting at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State.

Nigerians Speak on Sending Nudes In Relationships

This generation is probably the most sexually adventurous
generation of all time and with the help of gadgets and social
media, people can explore their sexuality in various ways .
Sending and receiving nudes is a very rampant occurrence among
men and women of all ages , so much so that on September 11 ,
2011 popular messaging app Snapchat was created but then it was
called “ Picaboo ” and was originally marketed as an app to safely
send nude photos.
To an extent , it has become a part and parcel of the average
relationship today because the term “ Send Nudes” is as common
as anything in conversations between lovers and even friends
today .
We asked twelve random adults about their views on the matter
and they had the following to say (M represents male and F
represents Female );
M – He was okay with it and admitted to sending and receiving
nudes regularly from different lovers .
F – She was okay with the idea but personally doesn’ t engage in it
because she feels the best way to handle sexual urge is to simply
have sex as opposed to going back and forth with nudes .
M – He believes that it’s only acceptable between married couples
but feels that if you must send, you should at least exclude your
face to protect yourself .
M – He was strongly against the idea and felt that in a situation
where the phone is stolen , pictures and videos are at the thieves
disposal.
M – He felt that as long as both parties have an understanding and
don ’t show their faces it is okay .
F – She was okay with the idea and admitted to often sending
nudes to her boyfriend whenever she felt like.
M – He admitted that he and his girlfriend who are in a long
distance relationship often send nudes to keep things exciting and
also so that the relationship doesn’t lose its sex factor and get
boring.
F – She stated that she was okay with it in the past but with the
recent cases of leaks by disgruntled lovers , she no longer sends
nudes.
M – He was against the idea for “ security reasons ” stating that he
has political ambitions and he wouldn ’t want anything that could
tarnish his image in the future .
F – She admitted that she was once blackmailed by an ex -
boyfriend who threatened to “ leak her nudes ” unless she stays in
what she described as an abusive relationship so the idea of nudes
is totally cancelled in her head .
M – He was indifferent about the idea and claims he personally
wouldn ’t send anyone his nudes because he doesn’t get the appeal.
F – She admitted that before she got married , she was sexually
adventurous but now she is no longer open to it because she feels
there is no need anymore .

“As a leader and former vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, let me first apologise to all Nigerians, my fellow candidates and the moderator for the the APC Presidential Candidates absence in this debate. His non-appearance is a slight on ALL of us and our democracy.
“Secondly, with all due respect to my fellow candidates, Fela Durotoye, Oby Ezekwesili, Kingsley Moghalu and to the moderator and with all apologies to my Fellow Nigerians here and at home expecting an interesting debate, I regret that I will not be able to go on with this debate due to President Buhari’s absence.
“I however challenge the President Buhari to choose a date and time for a debate where he will be present and I will be there, hopefully with the other candidates as well.
“Thank you and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Former Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has disclosed that he told Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich to “Pay, and don’t speak” in order to sign Ivory Coast legend, Didier Drogba from Marseille in 2004.

Mourinho stated this ahead of his “forthright opinions” on the Premier League match between Arsenal and Chelsea on today.

Drogba was one of Mourinho’s first signing at the Stamford Bridge.

The 40-year-old went on to become a Blues legend, scoring 157 goals in all competition for Chelsea and wining a lot of trophies during his time at the club.
“Drogba is the kind of guy who is so loyal that he never forgot that I took him from Marseille to the Premier League, where he was not even expected, because he didn’t start very young at that level,” Mourinho told news men.

“He had already played for Guingamp, Marseille, Le Mans, so when I took him to Chelsea I remember clearly Abramovich was asking me, ‘Who? Who do you want as a striker?’
With all the big names in Europe at that time I said Drogba. ‘Who is he? Where’s he playing?’ (I said) ‘Mr Abramovich – pay. Pay, and don’t speak.’
“And Didier was an iconic player for Chelsea, for the Premier League.”
