Osinbajo commends Muslim cleric who saved Christian lives from bandits in Plateau

Tags
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has described the 83-year-old Muslim Cleric, Imam Abdullahi Abubakar, who saved the lives of hundreds of persons fleeing from attacks by suspected bandits in Yelwan Gindi Akwati, Swei and Nghar villages in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau as a hero.

The people were fleeing from attacks by suspected bandits.
Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande,  in a statement yesterday in Abuja,  said the vice president gave the commendation when he received the cleric at the Presidential Villa.

The vice president received Abubakar; the Village Head, Damafulul Mangai, and other community leaders and a delegation which included diplomats from the US, UK and the European Union.
Abubakar, who is Hausa and the Chief Imam of a mosque in Yelwan Gindi Akwati village, in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, alongside his assistant Umar Abdullahi, who is Fulani, saved the lives of over 200 persons when suspected bandits attacked communities in the LGA.

The reported attack took place on June 23, 2018, on Yelwan Gindi Akwati, Swei and Nghar villages in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, where scores of persons were killed by suspected bandits.
Abubakar reportedly hid and rescued over 200 persons who fled from nearby communities, inside the mosque and in his personal house, until the attackers left.

Many of those the Muslim Cleric provided shelter for were from the Berom ethnic group which are predominantly Christians.
Reports indicated that Abubakar, on defending “my guests”, insisted that the attackers would have to kill him if they refused his pleas not to attack those he was hiding.
At a point, the Imam was said to be on his knees and then rolling on the floor to appease the attackers.
Describing Abubakar’s act as heroic, the Vice President said that the Imam had done so much more to promote peace by his singular acts than most politicians could do and so deserves all the commendation and high honour.
Osinbajo urged politicians to avoid using religion and tribal sentiment to create division among people, noting that Abubakar had demonstrated to leaders that the way to resolve whatever conflict was not by violence, but a demonstration of love.
“I commend you for your wonderful act.
“Imam Abubakar has demonstrated one of the most courageous acts any man can possibly do, by offering his own life, for those who are not people of his own tribe.
“I have heard a lot of stories in our country, but this is one of the most compelling stories.
“The love an individual can show for others not from their own tribe or religion, especially in a society like ours where tribe and religion often come to play.”
The Vice President urged all Nigerians despite tribe and religion to eschew bitterness and embrace peace and harmonious living.
“It is far easier for people to create religious tensions between Christians or Muslims through their acts or words.
“And in a community where people have lived together in harmony and peace for so long, it shows how much a little of such tension created, in a matter of hours, can destroy harmony and peace built over the years.”
Before the attacks, the community had reportedly lived in peace.
Osinbajo said that most people in Nigeria did not see the differences in tribe or religion, but it was easy to stoke religious tensions and divisions.
According to him,  one must be careful of those who want to play politics and create differences using religion and tribe as no tribe or religion is superior to another.
“When people have been wronged, it is always easier for people to accept that revenge or vengeance is the right approach.
“But as you know, vengeance breeds bitterness and hatred and doesn’t solve the problems created, but causes more deaths and harm.”
The Vice President said it was wrong for anyone to kill in the name of religion, noting that Abubakar’s incredible act of courage in saving others passed a message to both Christians, Muslims and others of different tribes and religion.
He said that Abubakar sent a message to Muslims and Christians alike and other ethnic groups that their own lives were as valuable as his own life.
“This is a very powerful message. Also, by keeping them safe in a mosque, a sacred place; he sent a strong message to Muslims that other religions and lives are equally as important to God.
“The Imam did not preach this by word but by deeds, love, by putting his life on the line to make a point. That clearly demonstrates to all of us that it is un-islamic to maim or kill people in the name of religion.
“Like President Muhammadu Buhari said, anyone who says “Allah Akbar”, and then goes to kill someone either does not know his faith or is insane. It is the same in the Christian faith.
” The gospel of Jesus Christ says we must first love, even our enemies and those that despitefully use us. And anyone who preaches something different is certainly not speaking from the Bible or the Gospel of Jesus .

“President Buhari also said during his meeting with the Catholic Bishops that all through his life as a public servant, he believes that people should be judged by their character and how they behave, and that everyone must have a right to worship God the way they chose.”
The Vice President further said the Federal Government would look at further ways to improve the communities in Barkin Ladi, and others affected by ethnic/religious crisis.
“We will look at how the Plateau State government and the Federal Government can help in the rehabilitation process.
“Government has been doing this in phases, to restore areas devastated by crisis. But we would look at ways to help further,” he said.
Abubakar, as well as his deputy, Abdullahi, were recently honoured by the US Embassy in Nigeria, for the heroic deeds.
Osinbajo said that Abubakar should be celebrated everywhere in the world,, adding that he was  happy that the US Ambassador had honoured him with an award.
In his remarks, Abubakar, who spoke through an interpreter, thanked the Vice President, noting that he did not want it  publicised.
He said however, that he felt that God chose him to do what he did to be used as an example.
The Imam said he told the attackers at some point that they had to kill him first before harming his ‘guests’–that statement dissuaded them.
“I pleaded with the attackers in the mud and rain not to harm my guests.
“By God’s grace, no one was hurt. God created mankind differently but he wants us to live together in peace and harmony, and not harm each other. Such incident (the attack) is rare in my community, but I hope such does not happen in my village again,” he said.
The visit of the delegation at the instance of the U.S. deputy Chief of Mission, comprised of the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington; Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, David Young.
Others are the U.S. Embassy official, Kathleen Fitzgibbon; and the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Bernhard Schlagheck

Champions League Final:Tottenham VS Liverpool Danny Murphy predicts winner

Tags
Former Liverpool star, Danny Murphy has backed Jurgen Klopp’s side to beat
Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final  tomorrow in Madrid.

Murphy believes Liverpool will be too strong for Spurs, adding that the Reds
have been winning under a lot of pressure recently.
Liverpool reached the Champions League final after defeating Barcelona in the
semi-final, while Tottenham dumped Ajax out of the competition.
Speaking on Champions League final, Murphy was quoted by Pressmen report
saying: “It will be a good game but overall, Liverpool will have too much for
Tottenham.
“Liverpool have been winning under a lot of pressure recently and it becomes a
habit. Also, last year’s defeat to Real Madrid will want to be put to bed.
“Once you have done one or two finals, it does get easier and that will be a
plus for Liverpool.
“But always in football, one bit of brilliance from Tottenham or a silly tackle
from Liverpool then things will change. In football, anything can happen.
“I am an ex-Liverpool and ex-Tottenham player, but I was brought up on
Liverpool and I want them to win but if they do lose, then they have lost to the
humblest of managers and a team that has not been built of millions of
pounds. It is a win-win for me.”

Inter Milan Ready To Offer €12m For Victor Moses

Tags
Inter Milan have reportedly made contact with Chelsea over the signing of
Victor Moses this summer.

Newsmen report that, the Nerazzurri still see Moses as their first
choice and have begun discussions with the Blues over a potential deal.
The 28-year-old joined Turkish side Fenerbahce on loan back in January,
however, Inter Milan ‘ s reported permanent interest in the player has thrown
his Chelsea future up in the air.
Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is set to take over at Inter Milan over
the summer and is thought to be keen on reuniting himself with the former
Nigeria international.
A reported €12m fee may well be enough to tempt Chelsea into selling Moses,
who moved to Stamford Bridge in 2012 from Wigan Athletic.
Moses enjoyed a fine season under Conte in his first season in charge with
Chelsea, and it appears as if the pair may well be linking up again at the San
Siro over the summer.
He scored four goals in 14 league appearances for Fenerbahce in the Turkish
Super Lig in the just concluded season.

Just In:Obasanjo, 393 others escape crash on Ethiopian Airlines

Disaster was averted at Murtala Mohammed International Airport today as 393 passengers, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, escaped air crash,  Journalists report.
Other prominent Nigerians in the Ethiopian airline passenger aircraft, Boeing 777-300, included the Director General of Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Amb. Ayoola Olukanni.
Also in the plane was Prof Samson Tunde Adebayo, the Director of Ports Inspection, National Agency For Food And Drug Administration And Control as well as scores of Nigerians and other nationals.
The passenger aircraft, ET-901, had departed the Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa, at about 9:10 a.m., Ethiopian time; 7:00 a.m Nigerian time.

Newsmen, who was among the passengers, reported that the almost five-hour flight from the Ethiopian capital to Lagos had been smooth until the pilot attempted to land at the Murtala Mohammed International airport.
Rather than landing on the first touchline of the runway, the pilot overshot it, due to rain and heavy wind, landing on the third touchline.
Newsmen reports that on realising this, the pilot quickly maneuvered the plane back into the air, flying out of the Lagos airport.
After hovering between Lagos and areas suspected to be in Ogun State, causing panic among passengers and crew members, the plane finally landed at the Lagos airport, some 20 minutes after the initial false landing.
The atmosphere in the airbus upon landing was a replica of what was obtainable in some Nigerian worship centres, as many passengers broke out into worship songs and clapping, while some fell to their knees in prayer.
Officials of the NCAA were unable to confirm the incident as the General Manager, Public Relations of the agency, Mr Sam Adurogboye, said there was no report of any incident in Lagos so far, while the General Manager, Public Relations, Accident Investigation Bureau, Mr Tunji Oketunbi, said he had not received any incident notification from any airline.
Pressmen checks from the Control Tower also gave the same report.
But the Duty Manager and Chief Customer Service (Nigeria) of the airline, Mr Otori Otan, told Journalists that if the pilot had continued taxing down after landing on the third touchline, he would have overshot the runway.
“But this is an experienced pilot. He realised this immediately.
“Fortunately, the distance between when he realised the situation still permitted him to take off and renegotiate landing,” Otori said.
He added that the incident was not out of place while confirming that the wind obscured the pilot’s vision.
“These things happen. That is where the sophistication of the aircraft and experience of the cabin crew members come in.
“The aircraft is one of the best you can have around and we are fortunate to have pilots who know their onions,” Otori said.
Obasanjo and Olukanni had both attended a Stakeholders Dialogue on Continental Trade and Strengthening Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement which ended yesterday in Addis Ababa.

Finally!!!Amosun hands over to Dapo Abiodun

Governor Ibikunle Amosun today Governor Ibikunle Amosun,  today hands over the reins of power to his successor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, declaring earlier that he had achieved more for Ogun state than his two predecessors – Aremo Segun Osoba and Gbenga Daniel put together.
The handover rite which took place at the Oke – Mosan Governor’s Office, about 35 minutes after Amosun had pulled out in a motorcade, was performed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Taiwo Adeoluwa, while the Abiodun’s Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako – Oyedele, received from him, the hand over notes comprising Interim Report, Audited Financial statement of the state as at December 2018, documents on Homeowners Charter and another detailing the affairs of the state.
Adeoluwa who chaired the state government Transition Committee team, lauded the Mrs Salako – Oyedele and her team for their understanding and patience while the period of the interface between the two groups lasted.
The Deputy Governor assured him that Abiodun’s government would study the documents to ascertain the true position of things, lamenting that they had expected interim report to come from the state government prior to the handover but that did not happen.
Apparently dissatisfied with the situation, she said the out gone administration had now imposed on them homework in respect of the documents.

The Deputy Governor also declared that the new administration would review all contracts on uncompleted projects of Ibikunle Amosun in the state to determine what needs to be salvaged in the interest of Ogun people.
“I was expecting an interim report that we can examine now. But it is as if you want to give us some homework to do and I can assure you we are up to the task.”
“Our pledge to the people of Ogun State is that they will continue to enjoy good governance. Our administration will review on-going projects,” Mrs Salako – Oyedele said.
Earlier, rated him high in terms of achievements in Office, saying in whatever section of Ogun state Osoba and Daniel could turn to and point one achievement of theirs, he would cite 10 of his own in such location, stressing that his critics were only criticising him out of “envy.”
The Governor who made this known while speaking with reporters in Isheri, Ogun border town with Lagos State, shortly after inaugurating 600 flats of two and three bedroom flats at MTR Boulevard, Isheri, added that posterity would judge him.
“They are just envious of our achievements and they are saying I’m the worst Governor and I said thank you, people need worst Governors like me to redefine the State and the nation. If everybody has been doing this as their bit, Ogun State would not be like this.
“God has been with us, even Mr. President is asking where are we getting the money to do all these projects. I’m happy about all the projects that we have done.
“I know posterity will judge all of us. I’m happy, I’m at peace with myself and with my Creator,” Amosun said.
Amosun noted that given the same opportunity, he would repeat what has done, such his road projects in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, stressing that Nigeria needs his kind of person to redefine the country.
He said: “That’s what I am saying. I am not the first governor particularly let’s talk about the last two. Let’s leave all the Military Administrators. Take Chief Osoba, take Daniel, put them together and let them point (to their projects). Once they say this is our project, I will show them 10. Even the axis of Ijebu and Yewa, I will show them.
“So, When people sit down in one corner and talk, I have told them that I should not be punished for the ‘sin’ that is committed to make Abeokuta the capital of Ogun State. Abeokuta is for all of us. It is not as if what they are saying is correct.
“They say I am only the governor of Abeokuta. I am happy to be governor of Abeokuta. And if I have to come again and again, I would want to be classified like that (Governor of Abeokuta). Ask them – People have come before me, people that say they have been governor of this state.g hands over the reins of power to his successor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, declaring earlier that he had achieved more for Ogun state than his two predecessors – Aremo Segun Osoba and Gbenga Daniel put together.

5 types of information you must never share on social media

Tags
It is very common on social media nowadays for people to stylishly get critical information from unsuspecting social media users in the name of game or fun.
Especially on Twitter where people unknowingly drop vital information about themselves in the name of trying to win a “give away” or just for the hell of it — To fraudsters, out to defraud them.

Here are 5 types of information you must avoid giving on any social media platform

1. Drop your mother’s maiden name.
2. Drop your account details
3.The name of your best pet.
4.A photo of you without makeup
5. Where did you grow up.
These are known tactics by fraudsters to profile you and get vital information about you. Take heed and stay safe.

5 Achievable ways to focus on your life

Tags
  1. Focus on yourself first
If you want to change the world, you must begin with yourself. When it comes right down to it, you have control over only THREE things in life: the thoughts you think, the images you visualize, and the actions you take. If you focus on thinking positive thoughts, visualizing more successful outcomes, and taking positive action to achieve those outcomes, you are guaranteed to experience better results in your personal and professional life. Not only that, you will impress and inspire others who want to experience better results in their own lives.
2.Commit to continuous self-improvement

Gandhi once said, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” The joy of learning lies in the process, not the end result. When you dedicate yourself to a life of continuous self-improvement and growth, you remain curious and open and in a state of constant expansion. Not only does this make your life more interesting and meaningful, it inspires others to follow in your footsteps. And the more people who choose to continuously improve rather than remain in a state of stagnation, the better it will be for the world.

3.View challenges as opportunities
People say they want to create a better life for themselves, but all too often they give up at the first sign of trouble. The road to success has obstacles and challenges – that one’s a given. But it’s in the process of overcoming those obstacles that you become the kind of person who is capable of creating the kind of life you want to live.

When you cultivate perseverance and welcome challenges as opportunities to grow and expand your learning – as opposed to excuses to give up and stay exactly where you are, you will be able to achieve so much more in life. And you will motivate others to have the confidence and perseverance to overcome their own obstacles as well.

4.Be generous with your wisdom
Imagine if everyone in your family gave up complaining, took full responsibility for their actions, and created the life of their dreams. Or if every one in your company practiced the time-honored principles of success.
What if every member of your softball team approached life this way? What if every high school student in America knew these principles and put them into practice in class, on the playing field, and in their social life, so they became confident adults who had a clear vision of what they wanted and the resources to make their vision a reality? What if every man and woman in prison learned these valuable principles before they were released back into society?
You can help create this world by actively facilitating the growth of others. As a student of success, you have so much wisdom to offer the people in your life – and the greatest gift you can give them is to share what you’ve learned and help them achieve more success in their own lives.

5.Go after your dreams – and inspire others to do the same
Each of us has the power within to create the life we want, the life we dream about, the life we were born to live. Each of us deserves to fulfill our full potential and manifest our true destiny. It is our birthright.
But many people don’t understand this. They think that they’re stuck where they are, subject to the whims of a cruel and indifferent universe, and that they lack the ability and/or the right to break free and create a better life for themselves.

You can show them they’re wrong.
When you go after your dreams and start living life at your highest potential, you inspire others to do the same. And this will have a tremendous impact on the world around you.

Messi speaks on Manager getting sacked after Champions League failure

Tags
Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, has called for manager Ernesto Valverde, to
be kept at the club beyond this season.

Valverde’s future at the Nou Camp is up in the air, following another
Champions League debacle this year.

The Spanish champions squandered a 3-0 first leg advantage at Anfield, falling
4-0 to the Reds in the return match of their Champions League semi-final.

It is the second straight year featuring a return leg collapse for the LaLiga
giants, after blowing another three-goal lead against Roma in the quarter-finals
of the competition last season.

“I would like [Valverde] to continue. You may like it or not, but as we play this
year we can win another double. But this is a very big spot.

“In these two years, two games were lost. It is true that they tainted us but
beyond that, the rest was good,” Messi told reporters ahead of their Copa del
Rey final against Valencia this weekend.
