How I Overcame my Son's Death-Dbanj Reveals

Tags
There is no doubt that pop star, Dapo Oyebanjo, aka D’banj, is one of the most energetic Nigerian performers of his generation. The singer is known to induce euphoria in people who attend his shows with the stunts he pulls on stage.

However, the Mobolowowon singer lost his only son some months ago and many felt it would affect his mojo. He seemed to go off the grid immediately after the tragedy and some even feared that the singer might not be able to put in his usual zeal into his music career.
However, the singer has bounced back from the unfortunate incident though he was badly hurt. He performed at most of the events that took place during the Yuletide and it was vintage D’banj.
At the end-of-year party of a real estate company, D’banj gave such a spectacular performance that fans didn’t want him to leave the stage. During his performance, the singer also revealed how he was able to get through the death of his son.
He said, “I have been through tough times but I believe that’s what makes one a man. You all know what happened to me recently when I lost my son; it was really a tough time for me. But do you know how I was able to get through it? It was because of you, my fans. You showed me so much love and it really meant a lot to me and my family. It is when certain things happen to you that you will know whether you are a man or not. That incident was a test for me and I am glad that I’m still standing.”
Speaking on what he has for the coming year, D’banj said, “You just have to keep your fingers crossed because I have a lot of things in stock for you. I am back, bigger and better. Some people thought my career will go down but I’m still here shining.
The fans still loves me and that’s what counts. I am very glad that I have very loyal fans who have been with me from the start. I don’t take that for granted because not every artiste has that privilege.”
Lending words of advice to the people at the event, Oyebanjo said, “You should never be discouraged from following your dreams. When I started my career, so many people said I wouldn’t make it. They thought I wouldn’t go far and they ridiculed me because I was playing the harmonica but look who is standing here now.”

10 Fashion Tips for 2019

Tags

Fashion Tip #1  – Have Self-Confidence: Before anything else… understand that a big chunk of style depends on a confident attitude.
Self-confidence doesn’t just help you engage with women. It’s an internal driving force for remembering who are you are, what you stand for.

When you’re in sync with your sense of purpose, it sends a strong signal that affects the “aura” you give off – and even the clothes you wear.
So how do you build that confidence? Start by learning from a good mentor. An older guy who exudes confidence the second he makes eye contact with anybody (without coming off as arrogant).
Aside from that, master the art of power posing whenever you lack self-confidence. You’d be surprised by how much simple actions like the “Superman pose” can benefit us mentally.

Fashion Tip #2 – Value Style & Image
Entering the real world – you’ve got to open your eyes to the inconvenient truth: books are always judged by their covers.
Appearances do matter. Especially when it comes to first impressions.
Isn’t a good personality still important? Absolutely. But some people won’t ever be exposed to it if they can’t see past your lackluster “cover.”
To nail first impressions, your style and image have to work within society’s system of what’s acceptable – what’s expected of young professionals.
You want to dress in a way that can easily grant you those precious seconds to sell a thought, make your case, and influence others.
That means you must stick to crisp, clean, and well-fitted clothing. That’s what encourages people to take you more seriously. Any young doctor, lawyer, consultant or salesman needs to understand this.
It also matters to dress appropriately for your age. If your wardrobe screams “student” or “teenager” – you’re going to be treated like you’re still a kid. You need dressier clothes that show your maturity so you’ll gain the respect and trust of everyone (older and younger).
A simple trick to add maturity to your outfit? Use a Vincero watch. It’s a great alternative to today’s luxury or name-brand watches – especially for young professionals.
Vincero watches are super affordable. It baffles a lot of people – who are quick to assume they’re 5 or 10 times the actual price! It’s not that surprising when you consider the specs (316L stainless steel, scratch-resistant crystal glass, Italian marble, and Italian leather for the strap).
Their quality is light years ahead of all those similarly priced, cookie-cutter watches. Vincero makes you stand out stylishly – to build connections with those who can help you get ahead in your career.

Fashion Tip #3 – Level-Up Your Footwear
Still wearing running shoes all the time (even when you’re NOT running)? Explore other options.
Why? It boils down to a traditional school of thought that’s still alive and well these days: you can judge a man by his shoes.
People see shoes as a way of measuring your net worth – or assuming your career and social status.
So I believe in spending good money on a pair of high-quality dress shoes. It’s a classic type of footwear that works for nearly all occasions.
A pair of quality leather shoes is one of the best investments – provided it’s durable and comfortable to wear for many years (with nothing more than some light cleaning and the occasional shine required).
It’s not just about looking sharp. These shoes represent attention to detail, and how carefully you present yourself (not giving people any reason to ridicule your young age or starting salary)

Fashion Tip #4 – Take Care Of Your Clothing
In general, being young means you’ve got less disposable income. Budgeting is a must.
But at the same time – there’s no excuse for not keeping your clothes in great shape.
With just a few bucks, be selective with buying things such as wooden hangers for your suits, shoe trees for your shoes, a reliable iron, and detergent.
And then there’s the free stuff – information. Be educated on ironing your shirt properly (so you don’t end up ruining the fabric or leaving marks).
You also want to learn how to wash and dry certain fabrics or materials, as well as treating stains on your clothes safely.
Those bits of information go a long way – sparing you from making costly mistakes in the future.

Fashion Tip #5 – Nail The Fit
At home, you might still enjoy wearing those baggy shorts or oversized shirts even though you have slimmed down…
But outside, remember that fit is king. It’s your top concern in the style pyramid (before you think of fabric and function/style) for any clothing item.
Rule of thumb: If it doesn’t fit (and can’t be slightly adjusted to fit) – do NOT buy it. It won’t work.

Fashion Tip #6 – Own A Well-Fitted Suit
No matter what your job is, you’ll most likely wear a high-quality suit at some point in life.
So if you’re going to buy one, make sure it’s a classic suit. Consider factors like notch lapels, the proper length of the jacket (the back side shouldn’t completely cover your butt) and a clean, consistent stitching (check this by opening the vents and breast pocket).
For any suit that’s off the rack – do take the time to have it adjusted. Some department stores still offer the service, but chances are you’ll need to find a tailor independently.
Skilled tailors would know how to make small changes that take it from “mediocre” to “perfect for you.” They could even turn a ten-dollar suit from the thrift shop into a staple of your dress wardrobe. That’s right – it doesn’t matter where the suit comes from. As long as it looks amazing on you!
Note: Be careful in picking the color of your suit. You wouldn’t wear something bright or flashy to a funeral or corporate event. Make the best choice based on the relevant occasion and your shoe color.

Fashion Tip #7 – Choose QUALITY Over Quantity
What good is a wardrobe that’s oversaturated with items that either (A) don’t feel good to wear or (B) are difficult to match with one another?
The truth is it’s pretty much a dump – where the good stuff gets lost in the mix while the rest have to be cleared or replaced. While you’re still young, this is one of those mistakes you’ll be glad you made. Because it gives you the wisdom to make better purchases (even beyond clothing) at an early age.
But also – you should aim to build your own interchangeable wardrobe which includes:
  • A good core of white and blue dress shirts (the backbone of most sharp outfits)
  • Simple ties with dark shades of blue, green or red (a small repeating pattern is fine)
  • Jackets, trousers, shoes with the right colors and textures (which don’t clash with your shirts)
This system provides a set of all clothes you’ll need 99% of the time – and every single piece is something you’ll enjoy wearing.
Fashion Tip #8 – Get Rid Of Worn Out Clothing
Certain jean styles might’ve been trendy during your teenage years (like tears, holes or distressed looks).
Eliminate those pants (or clothes with similar styles) from your closet right away. You want to move past that rebellious, individualistic phase for good.
Upgrade your legwear by sticking to what works: clean, well-fitted indigo jeans.
Also get a couple of dark-colored slacks or chinos (either straight or slim fit) to add some variety.
 Fashion Tip #9 – Throw Out T-Shirts & Hoodies
We know that Mark Zuckerberg normally comes to work in a gray hoodie – as if he was running a local gym instead of Facebook.
But how many men like Zuckerberg are on this planet? Exactly…
The average guy doesn’t have such privileges – and will be judged in a negative way if he wears UN-dressy shirts or tops.
That includes different hoodies and t-shirts (especially graphic tees). To play it safe, donate the majority of those items to charity. Save a small portion for home or gym use.
Your focus should be on having different well-fitted casual button-downs and long-sleeved sweaters. You can also opt for sports shirts or polo shirts during warmer days.
Fashion Tip #10 – Ignore Fashion Trends
Finally, don’t fall prey to the whimsical whims of fashion.
Mainstream fashion trends change too fast to really become staples of your style. And young men can’t afford a complete wardrobe overhaul every month. So avoid anything that doesn’t survive past an “in” season (like skinny ties and jeans).
Stick to timeless clothing pieces and classic colors, patterns, textures, and combinations (those which have existed since your parents’ and grandparents’ younger years) – since those will never disappoint.

Simple tips to create a healthy and happy holiday season.

Tags
The holiday season is finally here, bringing joy , happiness and an
exciting New Year . Being surrounded by friends and family is one of
the most important and memorable parts of the holiday season .
While we all want to feel cheerful during this period, sometimes the
indulgent foods, busy schedules, family , and expenses can cause a
lot of extra pressure and stress . The holidays can be a busy time and
can negatively affect your health if you are not careful .

Research shows that the average person gains a little over a pound
or more between mid- November and mid- January . A study among
26 healthy adults showed an average weight increase of nearly two
pounds over a 15 day holiday period. Another study indicated that
38 participants gained 500 percent more weight per week during
holiday compared with non- holiday weeks . Regardless of actual
statistics, researchers conclude that holiday weight becomes a major
contributor to annual weight gain.
We gain weight around this time because many holiday events
involve food, and not healthy foods. More often, it is food like
desserts , candies , sugary drinks , and alcohol. As you crazily run
around shopping , socializing , and managing other holiday demands ,
you are also less likely to exercise . Even for very motivated people
such as those who hit the gym frequently and monitor their food
intake and those who are intent on losing weight, the holidays can
spell bad news for your waistline .

During these fun (and perhaps stressful) times, it is important to
remember some simple habits that can keep you and your family
healthy. These habits include :
1 . MANAGE YOUR STRESS WITH “ ME TIME ” : For many, the holidays
are a time of fun , merriment and celebration, including the
opportunity to spend time with people that you might not see very
often. Experts recommend that people set aside time for themselves
every day to make sure the body is getting the rest and attention it
needs . Spending a few moments alone can give you a chance to reset
and prepare for the next holiday event .
2 . STAY UP TO DATE ON VACCINATIONS : The flu and colds can
spread almost uncontrollably throughout a home , workplace or
school. Be sure that your entire family is up to date on this year ’s flu
shot to help stop the flu from making the rounds .
3 . PRACTICE MODERATION AND HEALTHY SUBSTITUTIONS : The
holidays do not have to mean a season of unhealthy indulgence.
Practice moderation by eating healthier foods and fruits . Try to limit
your intake of salty, sugary and fat - laden foods.
4 . STAY ACTIVE & HYDRATED WHILE HAVING FUN : Exercise is often
one of the first things that go by the wayside during the busy holiday
season. Make a commitment to be active at least 30 to 60 minutes
every day and make it interesting . Dance to your favorite music or
take a walk around the neighborhood . Do not forget to increase your
water intake in order to keep your body refreshed and to reduce
hunger cravings .
5 . SLEEP : Getting enough sleep is crucial to staying healthy during
the holidays . Make sure to go to bed and wake up at regular times.
Do not buy into the common misconception that you can catch up on
the sleep you miss on the weekends or at another time . Instead,
make getting enough sleep a priority every night . Lack of sleep can
disrupts mood and immune resilience , leaving us more vulnerable to
sickness in the peak of cold and flu season. Plus , without enough
sleep we are too exhausted to get the exercise our bodies and minds
need .
6 . MAKE A PLAN FOR THE NEW YEAR: When all the parties are
over, and reality gradually sets in . Instead of feeling down ,
challenge yourself with realistic, sustainable goals for a healthy ,
happy New Year ! Compliments of the season!

I disconnected CCTV to rob my boss in Lagos-Househelp confesses

Tags
A househelp, Usang Bassey, aka Ben Peters, who was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for breaking into his employer’s bedroom and stealing valuables, has revealed that he duplicated the bedroom key to gain access.
Narrating how he committed the crime before reporters yesterday in Lagos, Usang Bassey Effiong, who committed the act 11 days after he was employed, said: “I noted where Mr. Okoye usually hide his bedroom key and to gain access to the room, I went ahead and made a copy of the key.
“Before I broke into their bedroom, I disconnected the CCTV camera so that I won’t be detected.
“Afterward, I stole their valuables and thereafter, drove off with their car.
“Robbing the couple was easy for me because the househelp they dismissed before employing me, one Matthew Johnson Abam, was a member of our gang. He had furnished me with relevant information about the couple even before I came to live with them,” he said as he was being paraded by the police.
It was learnt that seventy-three-year-old retiree, Mr. Alexander Okoye, and his wife Mrs Njideka Okoye, employed one Ben Peters as househelp on October 12, who they later discovered his real names are Usang Bassey Effiong.
On October 24, Mr. and Mrs Okoye petitioned Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Imohimi Edgal, complaining of how the said Ben Peters, who was with them for just 11 days, stole their valuables including their a car, five thousand dollars, six shirts and a mobile phone.
It was gathered that based on their complaint, the CP directed CSP Kemi Adedeji‘s team attached to the Command’s Human Rights section to launch a manhunt for the fleeing house help.
Two months after the incident, the said Usang Bassey Effiong aka Ben Peters, was arrested from a hideout in Agege, Lagos and some of the stolen items recovered from him.

Tags

Gubernatorial candidate of Alliance for Democracy(AD)  in Ogun State, Olufade-Olowookere has  appealed to the youths of Ogun State to  vote him as the next Governor, he maintains that  he remains the best man for the position come May 2019.

Olowookere , speaking with youths groups in Ilaro Community during his campaign tour across the state succinctly said " Ogun West Narrative is just a good coincidence, as I am for merit and my position on democratic elections is that the best man should be voted in to do the job".

The thirty-nine--years-old opined that, "What Ogun State needs now is a young, dynamic, innovative, capable, competent and technology savvy Governor. We need to move away from recycling or repeating people who are obviously extensions of some godfather somewhere. As for me, God is my godfather". "I belong to everybody and belong to nobody ".
He maintains that,  "As for Ogun West if after 42years we are allowed a shot at Governorship we should put our best foot forward". "This is not a time to recycle people, if it is about experience I have "almost two decades" of well rounded international, national and sub-national experience in governance and public administration".

While speaking at the interactive session, questions were posed by the youths to the AD candidate on his plan for the "youths" and he said, "We will ensure all outstanding bursary issues are resolved within the first one year of our Government". It should work like clock without the youths having to beg for it or protest for it.Properly funded Education, Researches and Sustainable human capital development are some of our priorities.

He further stressed that,  " Going around Ogun State, the consistent sentiment is that people want change, they want a better life. They want a government that will give them a better life. The pathetic scenarios from Iperu to Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu-Ife,Ibafo,Magboro,Lambe,Ota, Owode,Joga, Ilara, Ibara, Obantoko, Lafenwa....The situation has been the same, people are really suffering".

"I believe  that the current government has done fairly well in terms of infrastructural development in the state capital, which is commendable". "There  can be better Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) in many instances".

Olufade-Olowookere conclusively said "governance should be continuum and Alliance for Democracy remains the party with the Governor that will  improve on what the previous government had done and also initiate other development project at all levels". "We will sincerely prioritise the greater welfare of Ogun people" , he added.

OAU sex-for-mark- Lecturer jailed for six years

Tags
A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, yesterday sentenced former senior lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife Prof. Richard Akindele to six years’ imprisonment for demanding sex to pass his student, Miss Monica Osagie.
The presiding judge, Justice Maurine Onyetenu, gave the judgment after the former don had changed his plea from “not guilty” to “guilty”.
Akindele, on a four-count charge, was sentenced to 24 months on count one, 24 months on count two, one year on count three and another one year on count four.
The judge, who ruled that the jail term should run concurrently, ordered that Samsung S4 phone of the victim should be returned to her and Samsung S8 phone of the defendant should be forfeited to the Federal Government.
After the judgment, defence counsel Francis Omotoso pleaded with the court to suspend the sentence.
He negotiated for a plea bargain, but Justice Onyetenu declined, saying: “The rampant cases of students’ harassment by lecturers should be stopped.”
The judge, who affirmed that plea bargain was not absolute, said it was at the discretion of the court.

She said: “This kind of issue is too rampant in our tertiary institutions. We send children to school; they come home telling us that lecturers want to sleep with them. We cannot continue like this. Somebody has to be used as a scapegoat. Even primary school pupils are complaining.
“Telling me to suspend sentence does not arise. Plea bargain does not arise. May be the case continues to occur and reoccur because someone has not been used as a scapegoat. It is time for the court to start upholding the right of the children, especially female students. The case is endemic.”
The defence counsel told the court that Akindele had lost his job and learnt his lesson, adding that the university had discovered an error in the victim’s examination paper’s marking  and had concluded plans to compensate her.
The counsel further told the court that the OAU management was planning to make offices of lecturers open by building the front side with glasses, to discourage immorality.
But the judge turned down the prayer of the counsel, saying: “Do you think they do it in the office? They go to hotels.”
Counsel to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Shogunle Adenekan, had urged the court to confiscate the phone of the defendant and make him forfeit it to the        Federal Government.
He said sensitive materials were discovered in the phone during forensic investigation, but advised that the phone of the victim be released to her.

Charly Boy in a low-key wedding after 39 years

Tags
Maverick Nigerian entertainer and activist, Mr Charles Oputa, better known as,
Charly Boy or Area Fada will walk his long time consort, Lady Diane down the
aisle in Abuja for formal exchange of marital vows.

The wedding will take place at the chapel of the Sisters of Jesus the
Redeemer, Catholic Church , in Gwarimpa Estate, where he resides.
The ceremony which holds today, will be officiated by the outspoken Catholic clergy, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah.
The wedding will have in attendance family members and close associates of the
couple.
According to him, he hopes to convince his wife to ride with him in
a tricycle to and from the church to underscore the low-key nature of the ceremony.
Mr Oputa was first married to Stella at a Catholic Church in Onitsha in 1974.
The relationship produced one child.
The Catholic Church observes a strict marital doctrine which demands that
couples who contracted a marriage on the church must petition the Catholic
Pontiff for an annulment if they wish to opt out of the union.
According to Oputa, “We have been following through with the process of
annulment for sometime. My former wife who has since remarried cooperated
very well.
“She had no objection. The reason I put forward for the annulment was that I
was underage. My mother actually got the wife for me at the age of 19
because I was a little rascally with women.
“Getting me married at that age was supposed to curb my sexual excesses. “
Incidentally, Mr Oputa’s 101 year-old mother is once again the reason he is
contracting a formal marriage to Lady Diane, who has three children for him.
He explained, “This is not that kind of marriage with fanfare. I am doing it to
please my aged mother. She has been pleading that we do the right thing.
“This is a woman I have been living with for 40 years. We know each other
well. This is about obedience to certain demands of the society.
“People wonder how I am able to live with one woman all these years. It is not
that we do not have misunderstanding.
“Marriage is successful when you are able to manage your incompatibility. I
saw my parents quarrel, reconcile, kiss and hold hands again. These are the
values that have guided me my relationship. “
Charly Boy who is 62 years has nine children from different women insists that
“Lady Diane is now the mother of all my children. We have 16 grandchildren.”

Policeman kills tanker driver over N1,000

There was chaos at Trinity, Ajegunle area of Lagos State yesterday after a policeman allegedly shot dead a tanker driver for refusing to part with N1,000.
The suspected killer-cop was said to be an operative of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) posted to Ajegunle to tackle traffic robbers along the Mile Two-Apapa axis.
It was gathered that trouble started after the driver insisted that he only had N500 to give the policeman, who got infuriated and fired the driver.
Other drivers who witnessed the incident were said to have descended on the policeman, who was rescued and taken away by his colleagues.
The policemen, who rescued the trigger-happy cop, allegedly shot in the air to scare the mob before they took their colleague away.
Not satisfied, the tanker drivers were said to have mobilised their colleagues from other parts of the state and they laid siege to the road to Apapa, worsening traffic congestion.
A source said the protesters burnt tyres on the road, while hoodlums capitalised on the protest to rob people.
Pressmen learnt that some vehicles were vandalised, while commercial activities were paralysed.
As people scampered for safety, it was gathered that many sustained injuries.
A driver, Danladi Usman, said: “We are being over extorted. We pay N1,000 to the police. We pay to officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) and to local government officials. To worsen the matter, we pay to area boys. The extortion is becoming a burden on us. If we do not have money, they make us to pay with our lives. Is it a crime to be a truck driver?”
Police spokesman Chike Oti said details of the incident were still sketchy.
He said: “There was a crisis in the area and we heard that someone died in the crisis. The Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, has directed investigation into the matter. At the end of investigation, anyone found culpable will be prosecuted. However, the outcome of the investigation will be made known to the public.”
