She said the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola made the declaration on behalf of the federal government.

The minister wished all Nigerians a happy Independence Anniversary.

3 Signs Your Partner Is “Self Entitled”

Most relationships these days suffer from this common issue
known as Self - entitlement . Basically , this is when an individual
perceives themselves as deserving of unearned privileges.
These are the people who believe life owes them something; a
reward, a measure of success, a particular standard of living
among many other mundane things.

To be on the safe side , here are three common traits to be on the
lookout for:
Having The “Me Before You ” Mentality
A sense of entitlement brings with it an uncompromising attitude .
There is a lack of understanding of others ’ needs and of certain
social situations , accompanied by an expectation that you should
be far more interested in their life than they are in yours .
There is an over- exaggerated sense of self- importance
accompanied by fantasies of power , beauty and brilliance .
Compromises, that require one to meet others halfway, don ’t exist
in the world of the entitled . Everyone else is either competition –
threatening their own success – or irrelevant.

Double Standards
Whilst being unyielding to the requests of others , self- entitled
individuals make unrealistic demands, oblivious that their
personal happiness comes at another ’s expense.
Ungrateful attitudes are often directed at you after you have
performed a good deed for them . You might constantly change
your routine to accommodate their plans, for instance, but they
never offer to return the favour, even when you really need it.
Plus , they often appear totally oblivious to the inconvenience they
have caused you.

The feeling of Justified Rage
The self- entitled are no strangers to confrontation. Often known
for fits of rage surpassing any tantrum a toddler may throw , their
ruthless, egotistical stance allows them to believe this is justified .
Their anger can simmer passively too ; rolled eyes signal their
contempt for those around them . Simmering negativity is
displayed in cynical and overly critical viewpoints.

Nigerians Mock Tacha For Failing To Spell Daughter And Port Harcourt Correctly

Tacha
Nigerians have taken to social media to fire heavy shots at Tacha, 2019 controversial Big Brother Nigeria Housemate, after he goofed in the spelling of daughter and Porth Harcourt.
It all started after Big Brother Naija ‘Pepper Dem’ housemates were tasked by Biggie to celebrate themselves in the house by painting the walls with unique and memorable designs of their choice.
Tacha, a self-acclaimed Port Harcourt first daughter, then designed the wall but she missed out on the ‘o and u’ in Porth Harcourt.

She also missed the ‘h’ after g in daughter and this has got Nigerians launching a scathing attack at her.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CBN CASHLESS POLICY: NECA CALLS FOR CAUTION.

Tags

Following the recent directives by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), for the immediate implementation of a Cashless Policy,  Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), advised  that the current business environment and available infrastructures are not ready for such deployment.

Making this disclosure in a statement, yesterday, Director-General of NECA, Timothy Olawale,  said "although the initiative is laudable in moving the economy in par with other emerging economies, however, the current business environment and available infrastructures are not ready for such deployment. Also, several sub-sectors of the economy will be negatively impacted by the policy, as they are still predominantly cash dominated further stating the example of the Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Retailers, Downstream Oil & Gas Sector, Transportation Sector among others”.

In his analysis of the policy, he explained that “while Corporate account holders are still battling with Stamp Duty charge of N50 on every eligible transaction above N1,000, Commission on turnover (COT ) of 0.1 percent, the about to come on stream 7.2 percent VAT, etc, with the additional 5 percent as processing fee for withdrawals and 3 percent as processing fee for lodgments of any amount above N3million, it is needless to say that the policy is an overkill , exploitative and would negatively impact the citizens”. He noted the country’s Doing Business Report (2019) rating of 146th out of 190 economies, this and other uncoordinated and unplanned policies would further bring hardship on the people and lead to further contraction of the economy.

He called for an exemption for the sub-sectors aforementioned, if CBN would still go ahead with its policy and called for its review. He canvassed that CBN should ensure that all Deposit Money Banks improve their facilities as against inefficiency in our payment platforms and reduce incidences of frauds.
Concluding his remarks, Mr.  Olawale reiterated the need for wide consultation and stakeholders’ engagement on an ongoing basis before policy statements are made or concluded.

Six signs to show your partner is truly committed to you

Before you can determine the seriousness of your relationship, it is imperative to be able to have conversations about tough subjects with your partner, such as having a clear idea of what being ‘committed’ means to you and learn about your partner’s definition of it.
You could be dating your partner for a while and think things are going great. But you can never really know for sure unless they actually tell you how they feel about you.
You should also know that for some, being comfortable enough to express how they feel takes time. So here is how to tell if your partner is truly committed to what you share:
They speak in “We”
Bringing your partner into your world is an essential part of a relationship and a proof of commitment.
People in committed relationships speak about themselves as “we.” This simply means that they are bringing you into their lives and making you part of many of the things they do.
They are highly satisfied
The strongest predictor of commitment is satisfaction. If you are highly satisfied, you are often committed.
They see their relationship as better
Committed partners tend to believe their relationships are better than other people’s relationships.
They don’t pay attention to potential alternative partners. They don’t even notice attractive people around them.
They make sacrifices
What is commitment without sacrifice? Committed partners make sacrifices for each other and don’t expect favours to be returned, at least not immediately. They have a more long-range view of things and make decisions based on what’s best for the relationship, not what’s best for themselves as individuals.

They are always ready to try new things with you
Trying new things is scary. There’s always the possibility of failure and nobody ever wants to look stupid. But if your partner is willing to step outside of their comfort and do something they’ve never done before with you, they’re likely all in.
They are willing to talk about the future
Just because they share something real, serious and genuine, they are willing to have a discussion about the future with you.
If your partner has dropped their walls and let you in, that’s a good sign they are serious about you. A partner who is all in is willing to engage in vulnerable and potentially uncomfortable conversations.

My wish for Nigeria- Bill Gates

Tags
Co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Bill Gates, in this telephone conference with reporters from Nigeria, Stockholm, Uganda and others, speaks about 2019 Goalkeepers Report, Nigeria, the role of geography on inequality and many more. Excerpts:

High level of poverty and inequality that exists in Nigeria
Well, Nigeria is a super-important country and one that the foundation has an office there.  We did a lot of work in Nigeria on polio and we learned a lot doing that.  Nigeria has gone almost three years now without having a polio case.
The biggest priority we have, although making absolutely sure we’re done with polio remains a big priority, now we’re able to focus even more on the primary health care system.
If I had one wish for Nigeria, it would be that the quality and funding of the primary health care system would achieve the level of some other countries that are lower-income but have done a better job with the primary health care system.  So, it definitely is doable.
In Nigeria for a lot of the work we do there we’re partnered with Aliko Dangote, who helps us understand who the good partners are and exactly how we can reach out to groups like the traditional leaders and get them involved in these efforts as well.
So, Nigeria is important, I’m hopeful about Nigeria.  As you see in the report, the disparities within Nigeria are quite stark.
Also, one challenge that Nigeria has is that the amount of money that the government raises domestically is quite small compared to other countries.  A lot of countries at that level will be raising closer to 15 per cent of GDP and Nigeria is one of the lowest in the world down at about six per cent.  And so, it is a huge challenge that when you want to fund infrastructure, health, education, all those things, that over time the tax collection, the domestic resources are going to have to go up quite a bit.
That’s a long-term effort and I think partly by making sure the current resources are spent well like on primary health care, you gain the credibility that the citizens will say, okay, we want more of these things.  If we don’t raise the quality, you can get into a trap where they don’t feel like paying the taxes actually has that much impact, and so they’re not supportive of that.
So, we’re working hard… we do videoconferences with state governors.  If we can make the six states into exemplars, then these practices can be extended to all 18 of the northern states.  There are best practices down in the south as well that we can learn from that as well. And so, you know, building on what we were able to achieve with polio and the relationships we’ve built there and our commitment, starting with primary health care, we think that Nigeria can tackle its inequality.
Addressing inequality at the district level
Well, a lot of the challenges here are quality of governance.  And so, there’s a question of can you use the new digital tools in a substantial way so that people can track the government spending, so people can give feedback to the government when the schools or primary health care is not working.  We should be able to have way more visibility, way more measurement about government services than we’ve ever had before with the pervasiveness of the cell phone.
So, for example, in our family planning work, we go out multiple times a year and have women go around and talk to other women about: Did they have a stockout? Were they well educated? Did they feel they were being pushed to do something they weren’t comfortable with?  And that feedback comes in and we can adjust the family planning educational activities on a very immediate basis.
I do a regular phone call with six of the governors in the north of Nigeria to talk about the statistics on their primary health care system, getting the workers there, getting the vaccine supply right, getting the mothers to show up so that we get antenatal care to be better, we get vaccination rates to be better.  And it’s really the digital tools that let us, you know, every time we meet and talk, we have a sense of, okay, what’s gone well in the last six months, what hasn’t, and what do we need to change.
And so, you can say it’s partly because of my background, but I do see that the innovation in the digital tools, the innovation in the drugs and the vaccines, I do think those are why I feel like we can have an acceleration of improvements in nutrition, education, and health.
The interesting thing that I always want to remind people is that the countries that do well actually graduate.  And so, a lot of the Asian aid recipients like Vietnam, Indonesia and India, although they still receive aid, that’s been going down, and the domestic resources raised, in those countries has been going up.  That’s really good news that those countries take on more and more of that effort, and that’s partly why highlighting these district differences should be valuable to them.
There are countries that are the toughest are the ones that will remain.  I don’t pretend it will be easy in those countries, because the governance, getting that to be good is a huge challenge.  But even there, as we show in the report, we have seen progress.
UN General Assembly
The UN General Assembly week in New York is really an opportunity for the world to step back and look at the progress at helping those most in need.  And of course, the context for that is the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
And so, this is the third year that we’ve done two things; first, come up with a report that educates people on where the gaps are and where the progress is and what we need to do to try and achieve these goals; and second, we’ll actually have an event in New York City called the Goalkeepers events where we celebrate some of the heroes, talk about some of the innovations and talk about where we need to put in more effort.
The theme of this year’s report was the global inequality, and in some ways, it’s very impressive to see that in almost every location, not just at the country level but even down within the countries at the subnational level, what we call districts, that we are seeing progress on two of the most important metrics, which is reducing childhood mortality and increasing the number of years of schooling.
However, the contrast, the inequality in that progress is still quite stunning.  You have almost half a billion people who live in communities without access to basic health and education.  And of course, we see that where you’re born and what gender you are do have a major effect on this global inequality.
Countries that are interesting to look at include India and Nigeria where the districts that are the worst off are some of the toughest in the world, and the districts that are well off are actually almost exceeding developed country success.   And so, not only do we need to take best practices from the best countries to the other countries, even within countries spreading best practices is going to make a big difference.
The gender statistics, which are still not as strong and as clear as they should be, are getting somewhat better.  Seeing that girls are subject to more violence, less opportunity, less education, all of those are things that as we understand the phenomenon better let us prioritize reducing those incredible gender gaps.
We hope that a report like this helps countries really prioritize the things that work for the poorest in their countries to really invest in the next generation.  If we don’t accelerate progress, the gaps will continue to get larger.  And the goals that have been set in the SDGs are quite ambitious, and in these more difficult districts, we are not on track to achieve these goals.
The kinds of investments we think that are most impactful are first of all primary health care. That’s the centrepiece of this universal healthcare SDG.
We also see opportunities to use new technology to achieve goals, whether that’s using cell phones to find out whether government services are being delivered, to help workers do their job, also to make sure we’re investing in breakthrough vaccines and drugs that can make a huge difference for a lot of the diseases that are mostly prevalent in the poorer countries.
Finally, I’ll mention that this year’s General Assembly meeting will talk about climate change and an aspect of climate change that hasn’t gotten much focus, which is that we need to help the poor countries adapt to the climate change that will happen in parallel with the mitigation.  And so, that could further, exacerbate these differences because it’s the equatorial countries with lots of subsistence farmers that will have the most negative impact, even though those countries did not contribute in any meaningful way to the greenhouse gases that are causing the warming.
So, the conversation about helping the poorest, the conversation about the innovators and the heroes in this area, that’s something that we think will help accelerate the healthy, productive life that everyone should have access to.
And so, the spirit of the report is to be frank about where we are but also to show the path to do better.
Definition of a good school and what constitutes good schooling
Yeah, your question is a very important one.  When people talked about this in the past, there was real prioritisation on getting kids into school, in the access, both at the primary and secondary level.  And that is the first step and the world made a lot of progress on that.
But then people were realizing that in some of those efforts to increase access there hadn’t been enough focus on quality, you know, were kids learning to read, were kids learning the basic math skills that they’ll need in a variety of jobs.
And so, actually the World Bank did a report.  They pick a theme every year.  I think it was two years ago the so-called World Development Report talked about the fact that the quality issue was a huge challenge, and only a few countries were really getting out of a year of schooling everything they should, and that there were a few exemplars and a lot in terms of teacher training, picking the right teachers, nothing fancy in terms of technology, just having the right human teachers there that we could do better.
There have been a lot of efforts now to measure, to take the things that were done in developed countries like PISA and KIM to compare the school systems.  There’s a group that we’ve been backing that actually is now looking at all the different countries and showing some of those education metrics.
And so, it really does come down to the investment in well-trained teachers and a very strong personnel system.  And often that can be done without increasing the cost of the education system significantly.

4 Tips On How To Apologise In Your Relationship

Couples
Apologising is one thing that most people find difficult.
Apologising is you throwing yourself at the mercy of the person
you have wronged and hoping they forgive you. Forgiveness is a
choice that is left for the other party, however, it also depends on
how sincere you are with your apology .
In a relationship , it is essential that you leave your ego and learn
how to say sorry when the need arises and in the most sincere
way . Below are some tips on how to apologise in a relationship :
Be the bigger person
Sometimes , be the bigger person in your relationship especially,
when both of you are in the wrong and no one wants to apologise.
This is a piece of the compromise of being in a relationship . And
sometimes your partner will do the same for you. Putting things
off too long just gives time for resentment and anger to build. It is
okay to later discuss how your partner made you feel about the
situation when you must have resolved the issue.
Apologise the right way
You need to drop all pride and apologise the right way , no ifs, no
buts, just sincere apologies. This will go a long way to show how
sincere you are . Be open about how you feel when you apologise ,
this will open doors to discuss your feelings and be very open to
each other .
Listen
It is important that you listen to what your partner also has to say
when it comes to your relationship . It will not be fair to just
apologies without getting to know how they feel about your
apology . This means tuning in , putting yourself in their shoes, and
acknowledging you heard what they said . It ’s not the time to
interrupt or disagree . It ’s just time to listen .
Let your actions speak
It is not okay to just apologise and not change the way you act.
Your actions should also show how sincere you are with your
apologies. Your actions in this situation will speak louder than
your words. If you don ’ t follow through , you’re not just making
your partner mad, but you’ ve crossed the line into violating your
partner’ s trust

DIGITAL BANKING STARTUP RAISES 10 MILLION EUROS TO RESHAPE MOBILE BANKING IN NIGERIA AND BEYOND

Tags
A Paris-based fintech startup, has closed a $10 million-euro Series tagged  "FairMoney"  a mobile app to reshape the proper use of mobile banking in Nigeria and beyond.

Making this disclosure in a press conference, today in Paris, the  Chief Executive Officer  (CEO) Laurin Hainy, former CEO of Venture Builder and VC fund Le Studio VC, alongside CTO Matthieu Gendreau, ex-lead developer of PriceMatch and CPO Nicolas Berthozat said, FairMoney has  introduced the in-app payment function to its users, which allows them to top up their phone subscriptions, buy mobile data, pay electricity or internet bills, among others, already facilitating more than 400 payments daily. Other features, such as digital wallet and saving account are scheduled to launch soon.

“Our vision is to build a holistic financial platform for underserved customers in
emerging markets. We want to do that by offering an easy-to-use product to our
customers and become a financial one-stop-shop for them,” said Laurin Hainy,
CEO of FairMoney.

“We started with credit for small business owners and individuals, and we are expanding our services rapidly. Think digital bank for emerging market consumers.”

According to the World Bank, more than 2 billion people globally have limited
access to financial services and working capital. Access to loans for this segment
is extremely limited given that they do not have a credit score. FairMoney’s
approach to underwriting credit is based on a proprietary algorithm that applies
machine learning techniques to smartphone data. The average loans are 30 Euros and customers can grow their loan limits up to 400 Euros over time by showing good repayment habits.

“After backing digital banks in the US, UK, Latin America and South Asia, we are
excited to support one of the first companies to bring this model to Africa. We
believe that customers will ask a lot more of their banks–to be relevant, banks
will have to move from service providers to become financial mentors for their
customers,” said Ameya Upadhyay, principal at Flourish and FairMoney’s new
board member. “That’s where we see a massive global opportunity for FairMoney, which combines a top-notch banking infrastructure with a culture of obsessive customer focus.”

For decades, incumbent banks have only lent to large enterprise clients and left a big part of the population underserved. New technologies have created the
opportunity to include these consumers into the formal financial system for the
first time. Use cases for the FairMoney loan product are diverse–more than 60
percent of customers use the loans as working capital to run small- and micro-
businesses. The automatic underwriting process enables FairMoney to score
clients and disburse funds within 5 minutes.

Funds raised in this round will be used to scale the company’s engineering team
in order to develop a fully-fledged mobile banking offering in Nigeria and beyond.

Founded in 2017 by Laurin Hainy, Matthieu Gendreau, and Nicolas Berthozat, it is a mobile bank for emerging markets.

Having started in 2017 with mobile lending, the company is expanding its service offering rapidly to build a full-fledged digital bank focused on serving underserved consumers in large emerging markets, such as Nigeria. FairMoney has raised 15 million Euros to date from renowned investors such as Flourish, Speed invest, and the Partners of DST Global, among others, he said.

Group Harps On Reduction Of NASS members jumbo salaries

Tags

In other to have a better economy, Activists For Good Governance has urged government to help reduce the National Assembly members jumbo salaries and put back into the economy, to make Nigeria better off.

Speaking to our correspondent yesterday, in Lagos, the Activists For Good Governance President, Comrade Declan Ihekaire, said the jumbo pay of NASS members should be slashed and put back into the economy to make Nigerians  better off and there won't be any need for many Nigerians to migrate through illegal means or engage in all sort of illegal acts in other countries for survival.

"These jumbo pay comes in when one talk of housing, furniture, newspaper, fuelling of cars, domestic aids totalling about 15 items, and these items if summed up accumulate to 13.5million naira monthly per senator. Aside this is a monthly salary of N750,000,per month which is outrightly too much as Nigerian Parliament  members are the highest paid of all parliamentarians worldwide.

According to him, findings through contacts from some former and serving NASS members have revealed this worrisome fact.

The National Assembly is made up of 469 members of which 360 are House of representatives members, while 109 are senators. The 9th National Assembly members receiving 4.68 billion welcome packages is worrisome as facts on ground shows that the 9th Assembly is majority occupied by change mantras.

He implored NASS members  to  have good conscience and reduce their take home for the good of this country as it is time, those leading us in this country have rebirth of thought, conscience and a mind set to serve the interest of the Nation call Nigeria, he said.

Feeling Helpless ? Here Are 5 Things You Can Do

Tags
We all experience some form of helplessness at different
points in our lives . It is that moment in your life when you’ re no
longer in control. You feel powerless . It is that point when you feel
things aren’ t going the way you planned . You feel exhausted or
overwhelmed.
A career path has gone wrong. A dying relationship . Loss of a
loved one. You never seem to find the right guy or woman. Or
everything is just crashing .
It’ s hard to make meaning of life when you feel helpless and
things are not going the way you thought they should. First , you
don ’t seem to get it. Then you begin to doubt yourself. It ’s even
worse when your colleagues or friends seem to have it all figured
out. But you don ’t.
Why bother? “ What’ s even the essence of all this?” You ask
yourself.
Don’ t be too hard on your self :
Often , when we find ourselves in a difficult place, it is because we
want to live up to an expectation set before us by society, friends ,
parents or even ourselves. Each time we fall short of that
expectation , we crawl in our shell and mentally beat our self.
Life can indeed be hard sometimes and you feel like you’ re
drowning in your problems . But remember that the first thing to
do when drowning is to try to stay calm .
Reflect and Reassess :
Reflect and don ’t worry. How did you get to this point ? Do you
know how detectives recreate a crime scene? Re- trace your step .
Where did you slip ? The essence of this is to find yourself .
Remember those expectations , standards or goals you weigh
yourself with? Maybe it’s time to reassess them . What and which
is realistic or achievable ? What is important ?
Seek help :
It is easy to wallow in your tears , crawl into your shell and
assume the world has abandoned you. Don ’t be too hard on
yourself, rather get help .
Whatever the situation might be you should see someone who has
been through it, to help you walk through it.
Re - channel the energy :
Channel the negative emotions into something else . There are
several reports of creatives who created beautiful art in moments
of helplessness . J.K Rowling practically wrote her way out of
depression .
Actively pursue happiness :
Happiness and comfort are not the same things. We all want to
live comfortably . Have the best things money can buy and it’s
perfectly okay.
Actively pursue the basic things of life . Things that make us brings
pure joy such as the feeling of being loved or appreciated . A hang
out with family and friends . Go out. Meet new people. Read new
books . And maybe , you’ll see things from a different perspective .
While we are all trying to make meaning of life and find purpose
— it’ s perfectly okay to fail or fall. But , remember when you do
fall as Denzel Washington put it: “ Fall forward ” .r

In her words;
“Am truly filled with gratitude, I am grateful and thankful to my GOD ALMIGHTY as I turn 55 years old today

As I look back over the last year, I know that it’s from my challenges that I have truly drawn strength. When a challenge comes my way, I take a deep breath, smile and I know God has my back. I have seen first hand, opportunities emerge from the challenges that I have been faced with. There is always a way, I have just had to WORK HARD and TRUST GOD knowing that TOGETHER we will figure it out. I am so grateful DEAR LORD that we have and we will continue TOGETHER to figure it out.”
